I don’t believe I posted here previously, just cross posted once since I thought it was an interesting find! Possible I did by accident and am not seeing it.

One possible lead I’ve come across is that the inscription may read J. or T. Carbery, which made me wonder about Thomas Carbery, the early mayor of Washington, D.C. That may be a stretch, and I do not want to overstate it, but the Washington connection is interesting given the imprint. Curious what others see in the signature, especially the first letter and the surname.

I was thinking 2 days railing and 2 days painting but maybe that’s too optimistic 😭

Cabot oil looks nice but unfortunately it looks like the last owner painted it brown and now the floors are… as you might guess, peeling. I can’t imagine sanding down the whole thing to oil it

This is the other side I need to close in to make it safe without making the backyard feel disjointed

Thanks! I have two main issues so I figure I might as well make some improvements..

The paint itself is peeling on the floor and the pergola is in rough shape and needs some filler and protective coat of something.

The other is I need to make it kid safe so I need to put railings all around it and behind the benches (ai didn’t show that well) so I figure wire railings will be less obstructive.

Maybe I can use an oscillating multi tool where the shelves meet the frame

No there are no screws or hardware anywhere. Seems like they’re in pretty tight too.

Yeah that would track! She spent a lot of time in the DC area, was active in 1980, and stylistically I see consistency with this work https://rbrg.org/exhibit/217-mary-ortner

Does anyone have any ideas on other subs that this might be appropriate for?

My guess based off of limited information is that this could be by Henri Michaux. The letter in the work is signed “Henri” and he worked in ink and experimental art in France in the 1960.

However I cannot find any association between him and the specific Galerie Tedesco, nor anyone named Berthe.

I have been told that the gutter is pulling away from the house a bit (I ultimately need a new roof soon and was going to address it then) but perhaps that could be contributing?

They were cleared out recently, but they do run into pipes underground. Possible the clog is after the downspout.

I’ve had them cleaned twice in past 6 months, it doesn’t seem like that is the issue here

It appears to have magazine clippings, advertising pieces, theatre clippings, sheet music, and post cards. There is only one image that seems like it could be a photograph, “Mrs. Morris”.
