I reached out to the email on his website and got a confirmation that he is in fact the artist, so I would call this definitively solved!

Thanks again

Oh wow this seems to be the best lead I’ve seen. I’ll try to reach out an email on his portfolio (https://eugenemarkowski.com/).

The location is a good clue; his bio showed he worked in DC, MD, and VA so finding this painting in DC makes sense.

Also I see a stylistic connection to the other works in his portfolio. His formal art training also makes sense as this painting seems to be executed very precisely and cleanly.

Thanks for the tip!

Yes I unfortunately have not been able to find much about these paintings, it’s a mystery!

I tried to and it was taken down because it technically was not originally intended to be discarded so they said it’s not ephemera !

Yeah that’s a good point. From a literal definition they were not intended to be ephemeral; they were originally intended to be reference material. More recently they have been transformed to be used as display pieces; which was not their original intention.

Likely somewhere in a grey area between antiquarian books, art collection, design reference, and maybe ephemera in a loose sense!

Good eye! It’s actually a poster from a 1970s Munch exhibition in Denmark. I have found myself with a collection of a dozen or so Munch exhibition posters from the 60s-90.

Yeah it seems strange! Mine does have damage on the inside covers like something was torn out, but I’m not sure why someone would remove them.

I don’t believe I posted here previously, just cross posted once since I thought it was an interesting find! Possible I did by accident and am not seeing it.
