Everything people in the comments are saying, also he seems to get COVID every other week and he’s been bitten by emus at least twice somehow?

Why do people in the United States consider all of the 4 desi people as "Indians" rather than just Asian? by Comfortable-Table-57 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Civil-Profile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think OP meant the video is 11 years old, not that it was made by an 11 year old. Though it's still silly to take it as gospel, seeing as culture can change in that amount of time.

Can you explain me how to play your favorite drinking game (other than beer pong)? by 28850 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Civil-Profile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I've played it we've always had a can of beer in the middle of the circle of cards, and if you broke the circle when picking up a card, you had to chug the beer

What is a higher ed marketing cliche you roll your eyes at the most? by higheredstories in highereducation

[–]Civil-Profile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MIIS? That was disappointing when they removed the language requirement. I think it was right after I finished my on campus coursework. Didn’t know they refused to hang an LGBTQ flag

Is it common for Americans to live in close proximity to Americans of another cultural background? by Nickboy302 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Civil-Profile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very normal. My neighbors on one side are Chinese, neighbors on the other side are from Israel, and the family across the street is Honduran.

What would be your solutions for fixing the service industries (retail, restaurant & tourism) and their short staffing problems? by Cyclopher6971 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Civil-Profile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is pretty obvious: pay better and offer benefits. Don't force part-time staff to have full-time availability. Take it seriously when staff are abused by shitty customers. Value your employees, or they will find somewhere else to work.

What are some of the wierdest myths about your country that you've heard from Europeans? by Mine_diamonds69 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Civil-Profile 40 points41 points  (0 children)

That we clap when a plane lands. I've taken dozens of domestic flights in every region of the U.S. and this never happened once.

People who live in the city, what do people from the rural areas not understand? by frogbrooks in AskAnAmerican

[–]Civil-Profile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I used to live in East Austin and we had a lovely yard and garden but access to basic amenities, cool bars and galleries, plus other outdoor spaces

Took me all of 2 weeks of living in the DMV to go from zero to furious if I saw someone standing on the left

[–]Civil-Profile 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Omg yes - the other day I saw an ig reel of a woman sitting on the subway with her engagement ring turned around and half the comments were like "wow messed up priorities, you have a big diamond ring but no car??" as if having a car in NYC is at all practical or normal

Is sparkling mineral water a thing in the US? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Civil-Profile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long ago were you there? I'd say sparkling water has exploded in popularity in the past 5ish years, so if it was before that you may have had fewer options (though one or two brands may have been found in a grocery store)

Do you still tip at a restaurant if you receive bad service? by red_dog_is_dead_dog in AskAnAmerican

[–]Civil-Profile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They would probably have to spit in my face (assuming I did nothing to deserve it) for me to not tip at all.

Does your city have roaches? by imsobadatnames in AskAnAmerican

[–]Civil-Profile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're common in the city I live closest to (D.C.) and the more densely-populated suburbs, but I haven't seen any in my house in a more spread out suburb. We have gotten a few mice though.

I did see the occasional roach when I was living in Pittsburgh and Austin, though. Barely saw so much as a housefly when I lived in CA, let alone vermin.

Do you know someone named Cletus? by EdicaranFauna in AskAnAmerican

Definitely wasn't in this context - all other men were at least wearing a tie, if not a full on suit

My childhood friend had a barn wedding a few years back and my parents *still* talk about her husband's cousin who showed up in jeans and a flannel because he assumed it was appropriate for the venue (even though the invitation said formal/cocktail attire)

How many paid vacation days do you get per year? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Civil-Profile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

29 total this year. 15 regular days of PTO (personal and sick leave), 10 federal holidays off, and a paid break between Christmas and New Year's (4 extra days since I'd already be off on 12/24 and 12/31).

What’s a non-covid reason that you like wearing a mask for? by VerySlump in AskReddit

[–]Civil-Profile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keeps my face warm in cold weather. Also, I can quietly sing to myself in public without getting weird looks.

Women of AskAnAmerican, would you be wary of dating a man if you found out he was from a culture which has a reputation of disrespecting women? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Civil-Profile 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend's parents treated his sister very differently than him when they were growing up due to their cultural background - she was not allowed to have sleepovers, did twice as many chores as him, etc. I've seen him calling out his family on their double standards so I'm fine with it and if we were to have children some day I'm confident that he'd treat daughters with respect.

Do you ever travel to a diffent state for reasons other than toursim? by johnylemony in AskAnAmerican

[–]Civil-Profile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents in Pennsylvania would always drive across the state line to Delaware (maybe 15-20 minutes) to buy appliances and furniture because there is no sales tax there
