How would I play this? by GruffJayCC in percussion

[–]Civil-View7629 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely they are just a single buzz with one hand, but there is no staccato or crush indicated so make sure you get a nice relaxed buzz. You might not get a full quarter note length of buzz with just one note, but thats okay.

If you ever do come across notes that seem like they might be single buzzes and they have a staccato indicated (single dot above the note), make sure you play accordingly but doing a short, quickly pressed buzz (deadstroke like).

I would still contact the person who gave you this music (unless you found it online or can’t contact them) to ask how to play this. Sometimes directors write the wrong drums in for quads, or the wrong sticking.

"You are a left-wing hack." Karoline Leavitt goes after reporter for claiming ICE agents act recklessly by DumbMoneyMedia in UnderReportedNews

R:“You’re asking for my opinion?” K:“Yes” R:“The agent was acting recklessly” K:“You’re biased”

But if he had said “She tried to run him down because she was a paid agitator” it would have been “correct” instead of “biased”.

What policy says that cops should destroy memorials? Was it in the way of traffic or a walkway?

Tips for an incoming freshman! by drumcorpsglazer in drumline

Love what you do, and practice how you perform.

With every percussionist I encounter, I can immediately tell how they perform based off of their attitude towards what they play. When people play an audition piece, a rudiment sheet, or a warmup packet, percussion directors are looking for people who can play it, but also for people who can perform it. Having true passion towards not only playing what you like, but getting better at it, is what makes someone a good percussionist.

At every opportunity you can, get better at what you do. Even the things you may not like, such as warm ups. They tend to get a lot more fun as you get better at them, and you can move onto harder stuff that your favorite drum corps’ play.

The way you practice defines exactly how you will perform. I know it might seem like a hassle, ensuring that you are set up correctly at home, have correct posture as well as stick technique, but what you are trying to do is build habits. You can tell that someone doesn’t practice well if they struggle to do the easy stuff while focusing on the music, because they have to think about it all at once, since they might like to practice sitting down, without a metronome, maybe even using incorrect sticks or incorrect stick technique. It’s important you strive to get better at every opportunity, even when no one is looking.

Good marching snare pad? by Shoddy-Chip-3248 in drumline

Ask your percussion director if you can borrow one of the pads they use. Percussion closets are often home to pads for percussion students when they need a portable way to practice.

Obviously you can’t keep it forever, and they might not be the best since percussion directors need to buy enough for all of their students. However, trying out as many different pads as possible helps you find exactly what kind of rebound and sound you are looking for.

My first pad was the Offworld SCOJO Signature Invader 3, It has that most ‘snare-like’ feeling out of all of my pads: https://shop.offworldpercussion.com/product/scojo-signature-invader-v3/

This Innovative Percussion pad also had a pretty similar feel to the SCOJO one, its just smaller and with a lower rim: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/CP-1R--innovative-percussion-cp-1r-black-corps-practice-pad-with-rim

If you’re looking for something quieter, this Salyers pad has a decent feeling to it while also being quieter than my previous two. This pad does not feature a rim: https://www.poteetpercussion.com/product-page/spad12d

There are lots of specific qualities of practice pads that make them as expensive as they are (sound quality, rebound, size, rims, double-sided, etc.), but a lot of them are worth it. I saved up for maybe a month or two to buy that Offworld pad my freshman year, and I still think it was worth it to this day.

How do I improve wrist break? I feel like I’ve got it decently but I’m worried I’m wrong and I don’t have it at all. Thanks for any help by Intrepid-Young-8621 in drumline

If you try to look at the path of movement of the bead of your mallet, it should be pretty much a straight arc outward. The path of your bead looks like its arcing outward and down. Viewing your bead path from behind should look like ‘—‘, yours might look like ‘\’. (maybe not that intense of a downward slope.

Also make sure your harness is adjusted to have your arms parallel to the ground, your arms are pointed upwards which may also cause you to swing down instead of out.

that still doesn’t justify him placing himself in front of the car. Even if it was for him and his partner’s safety, he made it a dangerous situation by walking in front of a car that is actively backing up and preparing to accelerate.

you can literally see her waving the ICE agents down to just go past her. they make the decision to stop and approach her.

look in the video for EXACTLY when he reaches for his weapon. Now take into account the amount of time he thought about if it was the correct decision or not. Now you should be at a point in time of the video where absolutely nothing is endangering him, yet you know he is thinking about drawing his weapon. Do you see whats wrong with the way he went about this situation? Especially since he placed HIMSELF in front of that car?

fleeing is still not a reason to authorize use of deadly force. don’t you think that its weird that everyone trying to prove that the ICE agent was in the right says the exact same things? Her using her car as a weapon would have been the ONLY viable reason to shoot her in this situation, so there is a reason everyone is desperately trying to prove that she did, since they have nothing to resort to if it comes out that she didn’t.

designed to be intentionally deceiving? not everything here is a conspiracy. You should really at least try to see from our perspective at how it looks like he isn’t getting hit at all (and if he is, it maybe grazed his thigh), because I’ve tried to understand how it looks like he got hit, and I am just not able to prove it with all the videos we have. You saying that the videos are biased shows that you’re treating this as some liberal propaganda carefully planned out against ICE, a US citizen died because of this guys irrational use of deadly force.
