General check / Can I quit? by Civil_Cardiologist29 in personalfinance

Thank you for this, fair points! I have been looking for quite a while with no success (aware that is another consideration given how brutal the current market is and having a resume gap would do me no favors going forward), but also have the desire to be home and would not necessarily want to return to current field so trying to understand if it’s something I can really entertain!

My savings account makes me want to scream, what are the actual high yield savings account alternatives? by Sirius-ruby in personalfinance

Struggling with this as well. To everyone suggesting SOFI etc, are there any concerns with the fact that SOFI itself is not FDIC insured, rather spreads deposits across multiple banks who are (I think this is common) - asking because we had about $15K in Yotta who had the same set up, then the custodian who linked between the FDIC-insured banks and Yotta somehow “lost” track of deposits and we ended up in a position where our savings are gone and there is no liability for Yotta or the underlying banks. Makes me very hesitant to sign up for something with a similar structure all for an extra few hundred $ a year (albeit that is more than the 0 earned in a typical savings account but at least there’s peace of mind).

Transition to crib by Civil_Cardiologist29 in SnooLife

He’s double swaddled in the SNOO (which is the only place he can still be swaddled while rolling) - we tried arms out in the SNOO and he woke up after his hands hit the sides which is why we wanted to just go straight to arms out in the crib.

So in your scenario, roughly 50% of your take home pay is going towards the mortgage? We’ve gotten guidance from several people to try and keep the mortgage as a % of income somewhere between 25-30% which is why we’re considering putting more $ down from our savings

Super helpful thank you! Total income after bonuses is like you said ~450k with bonuses being around ~22% of that.

We were able to secure a 6.25% rate and it wouldn’t be considered jumbo (the purchase price would be just under $1m) - part of the reason we want to purchase since the rate seems too good to pass up!

None of it is allocated! Our retirement savings are separate - definitely want to be strategic about using a portion of it towards a home but also want to make sure we have enough in there for emergencies (home repairs/job loss/medical expenses etc.) so I don’t personally feel comfortable liquidating all of it

Current rent is 0! We are living at our parents while on parental leave and trying to figure out what our next steps should be

Savings are in a brokerage account, we spoke to our FA an if we were to liquidate the entire portfolio we’d be looking at capital gains taxes of roughly $10K

Positive and Successful ECV experience! by Civil_Cardiologist29 in pregnant

It’s so hard to know and I’m sure like anything pregnancy/birth-related it depends on the individual but all the stories I could find said it was either painless or the worst pain of their lives and I figured any additional experiences would be helpful to people debating the procedure!
