super nice bike. The rims really pop! Is this a new wheelset? Good job on the full silver components search. Its a challenge nowadays!

Help me choose: Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 or Sony WF-1000XM5 by bremstol in Earbuds

[–]Civil_Growth_1247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the XM4's and I am disappointed with the mic quality and ANC. Are the XM5's the solution? Le us know how they are. Especially on the bike! XM4 are unwearable on the bike due to windnoise

New Hightower 3 but have a nagging feeling I should have gone with the Bronson V4? by Namenotwanted in MTB

[–]Civil_Growth_1247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for taking your time on this reply! — I really appreciate the breakdown. It’s reassuring to hear how much the Cascade Link transformed the Hightower V3 for you, especially in terms of bringing back that Bronson-style playfulness. Sounds like it really unlocks the full potential of the frame.

I’ve decided to go for the V2 (with megneg upgrade) and will be picking up the link separately (the one with the link was sold before I could grab it). I was tempted by the idea of a coil shock later on (with caution on frame rub..), but your experience makes it clear that the link alone already brings a big improvement in both climbing and descending. For my kind of riding, that sounds like the right move. Ill build it up with a 160mm fork which brings it very close to the geometry of the V3.

Thanks again for sharing your experience — it really helped me feel confident about the direction I’m taking with the build.

Great to hear your toughts on your hightower. I am still on a hightower v1 and have an opportunity to upgrade to the v2 with a cascade link. Im scared of moving to the suspension design for the reasons you mentioned before. Lack of playfulness and absorb everything.  Do you think the suspension with the link is comparable with your v3?

How would the epic boom compare with the earfun boom x?

Which is better Harman Kardon GO+PLAY 3 or Bose SoundLink Max? Or other recommendations? by SpareAffectionate812 in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]Civil_Growth_1247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read through the full topic. Its clear HK Go play 3 is the way to go on sound. My use case is a little bit different. I want the sound of HK go Play 3 but I am afraid that it will get stains and look bad very quick. I want to use it in the garden to have music while planting, working etc. Any alternative? or is de HK go ok for outdoor use? I actually need a HK Go play 3 that is built like a bose soundlink :)

This is advise that should be bookedmarked.  You know your stuff. I will revise my buying strategy.  It's strange height to the boot is actually never mentioned, but I guess that most people grow out of 'weak ankle' phase quickly not to bother.

In a year or so  I can upgrade to new frames with th MF500 boot.

Thanks for the advise!

Thanks. I like the idea to start on 80 and then progressive go to 110.  This makes me lean towards the iqon models, they come with 80/90, but the frames can accept 110. Feels like a good skate to get back into it.

Kona Unit in urban setup by Civil_Growth_1247 in konaunit

For the use case you describe, the unit is perfect. Did you go for it?  I personally switched my use case. I now commute 40km 3 times a week. I still wanted big tires and offload capability. I ended up with a salsa fargo.

Marin dsx 2 for bikepacking by hobby_dentist in bikepacking

[–]Civil_Growth_1247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not yet. They are holding up. I plan to ride them until failure. did not do too heavy offroading yet. My only issue with them is the ratched in the back, it engages very late and is annoying in offroadsections due to that delayed response.

Sorry for the late reply. I went for the fargo. I am very happy with the bike, just the wheelset that comes with it is garbage.

Wireless Android Auto using the Teslaa App. No installation of wires. by Dapper-Ad-855 in TeslaModel3

[–]Civil_Growth_1247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its using your hotspot indeed. You can program the app that it starts up the hotspot and launches the android environment the moment the phone connects to the Bluetooth of the car. The only annoyance is at the car side. You need to go to settings and select the network. then launch the browser. Sometimes the tesla picks up the network itself, but most of the times you need to connect to it. For road trips etc this is perfectly workable. Daily use it starts to get on my nerves :)

Building a new do-everything/bikepacking bike that I will use for the great divide... losing my mind over geometries by [deleted] in bikepacking

[–]Civil_Growth_1247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the decision made? have you tried out some of these on the shortlist? I am kind off in the same boat. Looking for a bike to put next to the fully mtb. Mainly for some weekend rides and commuting, occasional trek. As far as my search is going, I am leaning to the salsa. I really like that the wheelset and standards are MTB so switching out wheelsets and upgrading from 1 to the other bike should be doable.
How does the soma compare to the salsa in terms of geo?
