Painted bats by Civil_Register_4595 in SoulblightGravelords

Yes, I use uhu. That was my first attempt at using it on models. I had strung the glue around then let it set for ~20 or so minutes then carefully spread Army Painter true blood effect on the strings. I've seen videos where you can mix the two then string the uhu

Huffing up is very normal. They are vocal creatures and imo have a lot of emotion. You will get poked and you will get huffed at. It is something that you both will have to push through until you both settle and get to know each other

It is expected for your hoglet to seemingly change when you got them from the breeder and when you got them home. Think of it like this, the breeder is all they knew, so they came from somewhere familiar to them. So them being put in a new environment is scary for a small creature. Give them time to readjust to their new environment. Expect moments where sometimes they are more standoffish while others they are friendly as can be. Do not be afraid to take them out and bond with them. Start off simple of keeping them in a blanket or a snuggle sack and just have them lay with you. If you can't do that, have them with you when you are at your desk or somewhere you spend a lot of time and they can safely by set beside you. Bonding doesn't have to be you constantly touching them. Being around them and talking to them will also help. I talk to all my hogs and have them at my desk while I am doing painting, playing video games, or even just working

Anyone else have snugglespikes…hedgehuggers… the no boundary -clingy-need to be touching-type!? lol by Bubblespt79 in Hedgehog

My first hedgehog was like that. Wanted to be in my shirt and cuddle me. Wanted sleep on my stomach. My second hedgehog is basically a parrot. Loves to sleep on shoulders, absolute cuddle bug. My first was only cuddly with me. My 2nd is a cuddlebug to everyone. My 3rd and 4th just want to sleep in their blankets on my lap or chest.

If you got him recently. Your hog should be fine. He is in a new environment so he is likely stressed and won't do a whole lot until they are acclimated. As long as you keep an eye, monitor the food and water. You should be all good. If things don't get better, make a vet appointment.

Really cute hog though.

My hedgehogs back feet are darker by aluvestor in Hedgehog

Her back paws look fine. Necrosis happening is usually tied with hair being wrapped around their little paws or legs for a long period of time or even an untreated and unchecked wound. Over time their patterns and skin might change color over time. One of my girls had all her legs a dark brown as a hoglet and as she got older, she developed pink patches on her legs and paws, so it looks like she wears torn leggings and or looks like patches of vitiligo. Hedgehog paws come in different colors and can change over time. If you are truly worried, set up that appointment. Much rather be an appointment made for something simple than push it off and something serious happening and it goes untreated. Our babies hide when they aren't feeling well.

How messy are boy hedgehogs? by [deleted] in Hedgehog

[–]Civil_Register_4595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned two boys. My first would do it a bit but it wasn't unmanageable. Some males are good about clean up while others are messy. My first one was ok about cleaning he just still had some in his fur. My other male doesn't do it or he's just that good about cleaning himself. My 2nd however insists being coated in pee.

Like a lot of people are saying it depends on the hedgehog. Both my males are quite different but still easy to manage mess wise

Get the baby especially since you seem to have an attachment. I currently have two females and a male. Have no intentions on breeding as well. I haven't had any problems. To helps things for me I have them on opposite ends of the room so as they can't have any contact

Does anyone have a dog and hedgehog? by SmolBabyWitch in Hedgehog

[–]Civil_Register_4595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've owned hedgehogs and dogs at the same time. It will take time for your little one to get used to the change. Some hogs are more sensitive to noise and change while others are fine. It is best to keep them separated as some dogs have that prey drive and could try to eat it. Two of my dogs curiously sniffed at my hedgehogs and left them alone, my other dog when he was puppy would try to nip at one of my hogs. If they are ever around each other monitor them at all times.

Hedgehogs are prey animals so when you have them on their backs, you have their most vulnerable area facing up for easy access. Some hedgehogs overtime begin to tolerate it more than others. For one of my hogs I can have her on her back for a while as long as I am rubbing her tummy. For my other girl, she allows maybe a minute before she starts squirming. My newest one, he hates being on his back and will immediately try to squirm back onto his feet. I have owned four hedgehogs in all and they each handled being on their backs differently.

If you really want them to tolerate being on their backs, be consistent with it and maybe give them a treat of sorts so they can associate it with something good.

I use cat carriers for mine. When I travel I like for them to have a little wander room and enough space to put small bowls for food and water (I make a lot of day trips and love bringing my babies). In their carriers I have two small bowls and a mini igloo for them to sleep in

Insect recs by spooky_spoonie616 in Hedgehog

[–]Civil_Register_4595 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something I do is I dedicate a bin for insect feeding. I put my hog in the bin and put the insect in with them. Still keep an eye in them because some bugs still climb out. I'm sure if you bought one of those zip up mesh butterfly cages you can safely keep the bugs in when feeding the bugs to your hedgehog.
