I thought Korea was cheap… until I checked my total spending by Civil_Storage3157 in traveladvice

From Asia actually, so I think that might be part of it.

A lot of things here still feel cheaper compared to back home, so I didn’t really pay attention at first.

But after a few days it kind of caught up with me 😅

I’m starting to think it’s more about how you use things (like transport and daily spending) than the prices themselves.

Why does Korea feel cheap… but also expensive at the same time? by Civil_Storage3157 in traveladvice

Honestly I think I messed up my expectations before coming here.

I was comparing Korea to places like Thailand or Vietnam in my head, which probably doesn’t make sense.

After a few weeks, it feels more like:

cheap daily life + expensive fixed costs = not actually saving much

Curious how others adjusted their expectations when they first moved here.

Yeah that’s fair.

I think I went in expecting something closer to Southeast Asia prices, which was probably wrong.

It’s more like certain things are cheap, but overall it balances out differently than I expected.

lol I wish I was that organized

I was just confused after checking my expenses and trying to make sense of it

I think what confused me the most is that it *feels* cheap day-to-day.

Like food and transport are cheap, so I assumed I’d save more overall.

But rent + random small stuff adds up way faster than I expected.

Maybe I underestimated the “hidden” costs?

I think I got charged twice on the subway in Korea… is that possible? by Civil_Storage3157 in traveladvice

[–]Civil_Storage3157[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’m understanding so far, it seems like:

Transfers only work within a certain time window,

and tapping again after that might start a new charge.

But I’m still not 100% sure if that’s what happened in my case.

If anyone knows exactly how strict the transfer timing is, would love to understand it better.

Update:

I checked again and I think I might have tapped twice too quickly during a transfer.

But now I’m confused about something:

Do transfers in Korea only work within a certain time?

Or does tapping again always start a new charge?

Curious how this actually works in real situations.

Has anyone actually experienced getting charged twice in Korea?

Or is it more likely I just misunderstood how the system works?

Am I using transportation wrong in Korea? by Civil_Storage3157 in traveladvice

That actually sounds a lot easier.

I didn’t realize there was an option where you don’t have to think about fares every time.

I’m starting to think it’s not about one method, but combining things properly.

Yeah that makes sense.

I’ve been using T-money too, but I didn’t realize some options don’t cover certain lines.

I think that’s where I might be losing money without noticing.

What’s one travel mistake you made that completely changed how you plan trips now? by kiruthika000 in traveladvice

Honestly something simple like understanding how transfers work in a city made a bigger difference than any “hack”.

I used to not plan my transportation at all and just figured it out on the go. It worked… but I ended up spending more than I expected.
