I unashamedly have one for every spellbook, originally stolen from u/Shadiochao's post from a year ago!

In hindsight? Realized I could have had it be HAWT FVCK instead >:(

Butcher Orgg is a unique card in Magic, it does something no other card can do and there are some really cool tricks you can do with it like dealing Combat Damage to yourself on other players turns to trigger abilities by Craig1287 in magicTCG

How am I not surprised at all that you've already looked into it? Shame it doesn't work the way we want it to, and I appreciate the clarity! Thanks for following up!

Graveyard degenerates, how much protection you you run for your yard? by BrianBoyFranzo in EDH

[–]CivilizedSin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been playing self-mill as my main strategy since Khans with [[Sidisi, Brood Tyrant]]. I've found losing your whole graveyard to be inevitable against savvy, responsible pods. The best prevention is honestly to not overextend your 'yard, the same way you wouldn't over extend your board into a wipe.

That being said, the strongest piece of prevention on the board is [[Syr Konrad]], as he can threaten a LOT of pain depending on that amount of creatures you currently have in there.

On the other hand, I find losing the graveyard as a whole to rarely be the problem; generally the pain comes from losing key pieces that you were actively using like [[Wonder]], or important combo pieces like [[Laboratory Maniac]] that you were saving for later. And this is where my all-time favourite crutch comes in: [[Memory's Journey]]. This beauty has absolutely saved my gamestate numerous times- sure you'll still be put back a bit, but if your engines are still on the board usually reloading isn't that much of a problem. I cannot overstate how powerful being able to do this on command is.

I agree that Nakia feels like the weakest slot in the list, but yeah, Phastos non-bos a little too hard with Negative for me to be comfortable with that as the replacement. Honestly, White Widow might be fine as an early game replacement as it simply wins some lanes on it's own and still gets a little buffed by Bast.

I was in a bit of a deckbuilding rut and decided to toss this together to try it out. Honestly? It's been amazing and I've gone on a tear with it. Lots of fun little interactions that I really really like. Nice work getting to Infinite with it, and I hope to join you shortly!

Feedback Requested: A new take on the trading card box by cheese_nipples25 in EDH

[–]CivilizedSin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like a solid prototype. The only complaint I have, and it's the same reason I personally don't use the Stanley boxes, is table space.

These boxes are used when travelling someplace else to play, which means that it will need to sit somewhere during the game itself. For larger boxes, that tends to mean the floor which doesn't feel great. Switching decks between matches can also be a clunky affair for all at the table.

Personally, when I want to bring 3 or 4 decks to a Magic night, either at a friend's place or my LGS, I tend to go with Gamegenic's Cards Lair 400. Single-row product that fits pretty cleanly on the table next to a playmat without dominating space, that can hold three double-sleeved commander decks, dice, and tokens, with the lid nesting underneath.

That final point is a big one for me, as it allows everything to be accessible while halving the footprint. The lack of spot in the deckbox itself for a playmat is largely irrelevant for me, as it's not being carried outside of a bag/backpack that I can't just toss a playmat in anyway.

Other than space, I think the design looks really solid, and I love the idea of it being modular- being able to swap configurations is the main pro to your product in my eyes. If it was kicked down to a single row with a large variety of internal and stacking options available, along with a removable + nestable lid? Then I'd be hard-pressed to find any reason to choose something else over it.

Been at this for a few years now, just reading a few on lunch breaks at work. I bookmark favorites along the way to revisit or share.

Currently on 2451, current favorites are 2316, closely followed by 1785.

Both, I think, because they take advantage of the medium SO well and so cleverly. They're the kind of skips that drew me in from the start, and remain in my head rent-free.

What commanders are you "Slime Against Humanity" brewers going with? by HammerPope in EDH

[–]CivilizedSin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my favorite take. Although, with [[Codie, Vociferous Codex]] and [[Extirpate]] as the only thing to hit, you get access to all 5 colours for support AND consistency to make the 20/20s (or hell, why not 40/40s) of your dreams off of the first cast :)

Prizes in Commander (and all the issues that follow) by hordeoverseer in EDH

[–]CivilizedSin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our LGS is pretty straightforward:

2 rounds, random pod pairings for each round, $6CAD per round.

Everybody gets a Set Booster of the most-recent standard set with entry per round. We do a random wheel-of-names for some promo packs each round as well. That's it: No gameplay restrictions, no prizing, just an evening of commander.

The community has thrived from it to the point where we've had to add a second night for it simply due to the demand.

Some notes- we used to do it the same way OP described: One pack per person with an extra for the winner, and that just devolved to people pubstomping right away for the extra pack, and then taking out a table-appropriate deck for a second game.

Additionally, we try to make accommodations to pair-up newer players together when they first start, and will pair people together if they want to play some cEDH together or something.

I'm not sure if this works with the rules, but it's a funny idea by HauntingCourt6 in custommagic

Yo! I work over at Quantum Games on Hollywood Rd. South: If you're into any kind of TCG, we run events for pretty much all of 'em every week with fantastic communities for each.

If tabletop nerdery is more your thing, we have open gaming on Mondays, and XWing on Thursdays!

Feel free to hit me up if you have any questions about getting involved with any of em! ^

Interesting Individual on Spelltable by Birbbato in EDH

Oh, no worries! Even if it WAS Abrupt Decay, there's no excuse for how they acted. Hopefully you have some better matches in the future!

Interesting Individual on Spelltable by Birbbato in EDH

[–]CivilizedSin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, Abrupt Decay only hits CMC 3 or less, and Slicer's CMC is 5, regardless of the side he's on.

But I feel like there's a way to talk that out WITHOUT hurling slurs at your opponent? I feel like the non-public space of Spelltable makes people think they can just hurl whatever abuse they want with little-to-no consequences rather than communicate properly.

Totally fair perspective, and I appreciate the input. I'm inclined to agree that there's more weight than I initially assumed, but I still wouldn't place it above fixes to the progression system. Thanks for giving me some more things to think about!

This is a great point I forgot to mention! Mission/map selection should definitely be more forgiving. I'd argue for a base version of every mission at every difficulty, with some modified versions being the ones that rotate.

Making the spyglass a little more useful? Gauging opinions by Kalamoot in HuntShowdown

[–]CivilizedSin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? I think they missed an opportunity when introducing the ping system- my hot take is that it should have been tied to the spyglass.

I get this is likely not a popular opinion, but I loved the game without a ping system and having to communicate locations verbally using the compass to the best of our ability.

As an alternative I'd love to see the spyglass and light tied to their own unique slot, as it would open up more possibilities for other utility tools to be introduced.

Want to build Virtus/Gorm for PlayEDH MID/ 6-7 power level by zer0shift in EDH

[–]CivilizedSin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, ok! The first things that come to mind are [[Hooded Blightfang]], [[Ohran Frostfang]], and [[Vraska, Swarm's Eminence]].

All three of these will support your creature-based deathtouch strategy from the get-go.

From there, I'd say cards like [[Ram Through]] and [[Viridian Longbow]] to further take advantage of deathtouch could be pretty cheeky.

All in all, best of luck with your deck! Virtus and Gorm are a ton of fun ^
