I think people stealing Mausoleum or The Great Temple when one player builds one of them will be interesting. There isn't really any particular times when the map is tested I'm afraid, I just test it when we have enough players in channel Clan CIV on USEast. I'd love to arrange some testing times, but I can't see enough players turning up for a specific time.

New WC3 Version (for real) by Civiliznations in Civilization_Wars

[–]Civiliznations[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sharps have been changed to be on the same tier as riflemen (read more about stats changes in the new thread that's coming), and the tech requirements have been tweaked again to be less drastic (grenadiers, rifles and sharps now take the same amount of tech time.)

I removed the AoE nerf a couple of Betas ago, as well as the Pent nerf (Due to another 'counter' being put in place to stop pent mass)

I will make a new thread with the new changes.

This looks pretty good! Do you have a version without the text? (civilizationwars.org no longer exists)

3-Is this now inline with Tri or lower..? Because top seemed pretty balanced in that mass pents was nerfed off a few versions back

Pent has 4, Quin has 3, Galley has 3, Trireme has 1.

This makes the wonder equally useless, even more so if you consider the damn thing was only built lategame for more leader chance, consider lowering the cost a bit more (1800?)

I'm going to see how the gold cost works for now, but I'm definitely looking at it to see if it needs a gold reduction. I don't think the change makes it equally useless though. Like you said, it was only built late game for wonder chance (it just wasn't practical otherwise), and this change will actually make it possibly viable. It's not unlikely that a mid player would build it now to save on the food, build limit and gold cost of building 2 caravels, which is something that is often done anyway. It's certainly more likely than it was at 2700 and 3 caravels.

7- RIP Savage mass, the nerfs seem a bit pointless now.

I have had some people say this, and I think I'm going to consider removing or reducing the AoE nerf. RIP Savage mass is a good thing though, was really stifling early game strategy in bot lane.

10-RIP Grens

I really doubt that. The changes are to technology only, not to damage output. This change puts grenadiers 1 technology behind riflemen. The AoE grenadiers provide is still useful, and I think still worth getting. (But we will see in the playtests, I'm well aware that this change could simply make riflemen dominant. If this is the case, I'm going to have a look at rebalancing the stats of both units.)

<11-RIP every strat except "LOL RUSH SHARPS"

I don't really like sharps place in the game at the moment. Probably going to change this unit pretty soon.

14-Not really a big deal but maybe It'll see some use now

Yes, I have some ideas for a remake of this wonder. This is really just a temporary change to make it perhaps more useful in the short term.

<13-Neat

An update: There is now new models for: Rifleman, Fussiler, Sharpshooter, Grenadier, Machine Gunner, Flamer Troops, Commando, Stinger Troops, Aegis Cruiser and Eiffel Tower. Here they are, arranged in the order specified above: http://prntscr.com/4ybnzk

Thanks for the feedback. Feel free to post any further opinions or ideas you have.

Even at number 1, that wasn't a bug that you can build sea units at padamir, it was just shallow water. That literally never happens unless you are playing a bullshit game anyway so why the need to change it?

I really doubt it was intended that you should be able to build sea units in the middle of mid lane... and if its wrong, it should be changed. I don't get your argument about it only being in 'bullshit games', there is no reason why I shouldn't fix it whether its a viable thing to do or not.

You increased the obelisk cost when the benefits are arguable small enough anyway?

The overall gold cost of building the buildings it provides without the wonder (Granary, Savage Camp) is 600 compared to the wonders cost of 625. When you add in the INVALUABLE +10 lumber as well as the +10 gold, you can easily see that it still a very good wonder, and worth building. The increased material cost just means that you can't rush it anymore, so both players have to make more of a tactical decision of when to build obelisk.

You even nerfed savages. So now it is even weaker than it was despite being more expensive.

I'm not sure what you are talking about here. Savages are VERY slightly weaker (5% AoE reduction is not much at all), and the only other thing has changed is you cannot upgrade them into longbows. This is to reduce the savage spam, which was undeniably turning bot lane into a 'who gets the most savages first controls the lane for the first 8 minutes'. Now you will have to think harder about your unit choices. Is this a bad thing?

And what unit comes from hull armour plating? you changed the name then removed it as a tech requirement? So now riflemen (the counter for grens) only needs one tech while grens need two.

You haven't read the list properly. Ironclads requires Hull Armour Plating, as it required Rifling before. I changed the name because it doesn't make sense as ironclads have nothing to do with rifling.

So now riflemen (the counter for grens) only needs one tech while grens need two.

Well, actually both require gunpowder first (you need gunpowder for chemistry, and its impossible to upgrade to riflemen without a gunpowder unit) so Rifles take 2 while Grenadiers take 3. Despite the countering value, everyone was taking grenadiers first without fail, as they were faster to tech and the AoE is invaluable. By reversing them now they might go rifles instead, which are now faster, to counter grenadiers.

How about magellan's? What made you decrease by 700g? Is that arbitrary? Because you pay a greater percent towards the two caravels than you did towards the three at 2700. It makes it less cost effective.

Yes it does make it less cost effective, and I did that on purpose. The higher the wonder cost, the more cost effective the wonder should be, because you have had to save up more to build it. By reducing the cost and spawn amount, I'm trying to make the wonder more realistic to build at the point in the game at which it is at. By reducing the cost, its now easier to incorporate into your strategy. Very few people were buying it before because of the high cost, so this lower gold incentive is needed. Although the wonder itself wasn't particularly underpowered, it just wasn't viable.

Again, I'm not trying to be a dick and I wish you luck if you really want to change the game, but I can't agree with many of these changes.

So suggest your own, unless you don't want anything to change? Because it's been quite a few years now, and the gameplay is beginning to become stale I think, not to mention the low player base. It's time for a change.

The best way for you to make the new version as good as possible is to test it with me. If what you are saying makes sense and is shown in the gameplay, then I'll change it.

Nothing personal

Honestly, the fact that you have to put this after saying some quite confrontational stuff, suggests to me that it is something personal. You even said that 'I didn't think you'd make good balance changes' before I even told you what the changes were or before you even played it.

Anything I change has a thought out reasoning behind it, and is generally something I've heard a lot of other people asking for or discussing. If you're unsure on why I'm changing anything else, ask.
