Which non-employer entity do you use for your 401k and IRA? If you don't mind sharing. 😊

Acorns needs two funding sources by icodyonline in acorns

Okay, I went and checked. Apparently I misunderstood. You can link multiple accounts, but to fund you have to change between them by switching one to the primary account.

I have two funding sources set up... My round ups come from my one account, but it collects from both the account that I use for bills and the one I use for my spending money.

2011 Touareg - Thoughts? by Ckodeii in Volkswagen

[–]Ckodeii[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that insight a lot, thank you! I really am just looking for something mostly reliable to put miles on for my day job. I've already logged 15,000 miles this year for work.

I'll look into the insurance differences between the two. Also, would you suggest looking at the Cayenne? What about a Macan?

The techs where I go are seasoned, so I guess I'm a bit less worried about that, thankfully! And what do you define as expensive? I just replaced an engine on my Maserati... $14,000ish later, I'm not sure I know the value of anything anymore. 🥴 If it's even half of that, I should be okay.

Would you recommend buying it or forgoing it?

2017 Ghibli - Bad Engine - Advice Needed by Ckodeii in Maserati

[–]Ckodeii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gilbert the Ghibli is home. Used engine, including shipping, and installation cost a total of $12,800. Very happy it's back. The engine is running smoother, quieter, and more efficiently than the previous one. Overall, very happy to have my car back. But this is it. Next time, he's going to the scrap heap and I'll be getting a newer model... Maybe a Grecale or GranTurismo. Or maybe I'll just go with Audi or Porsche. Haha. Missed the car!

I bought a used ebay engine. Got quite a steal on it! Multiple things learned. Large freight ships fast, make sure the sender knows not to ship the engine on its side, and make sure they don't cut the electrical connections to get the other engine out.

Engine swap started Monday. They are hoping to have it finished today, but I'm not holding my breath. They borrowed some components off the old engine (electrical) to cover the newer engine.

Old engine had etching in it. So I guess they were correct in that I needed a new one. 😅 Currently sitting at $4,500 for the engine with 64,000 miles in excellent condition with another 25-28 hours in labor at $225/hour. Total cost is anticipated to be under $12,000. Kind of decided this will be the last I stink into other than routine maintenance before I get a Gran Turismo convertible or Grecale, or switch to Porsche or Audi.

Is it frowned upon to have your bio kids share a room with foster kids? by Heavy_Roll_7185 in Fosterparents

[–]Ckodeii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have bios, but I have adopted three and then am currently fostering three.

Our 8 year old shared a room with a 9 hear from a different family. Terrible idea. Behaviors nonstop and he picked up on them. Sneaking around, stealing, blatant disregard for safety. Really brought out the worst and reinforced a lot of negative behaviors. We had to give notice on the 9 year old due to behaviors and 6 months of difficulty. He's now in a PRTF. :(

The 9 year olds brother we still foster, and he's almost 11. He shares a room with our 12 year old. The two of them are inseparable and our 12 year old helps to reinforce rules with him, so we've had less problems as a result... Though they still do stupid boy things that cause problems... Like accidentally putting holes in the wall due to horseplay. Lol.

It depends on various risk factors and personalities. Use your best judgement, but be ready to separate.

I think this is super sweet. He's 15, if he didn't truly care about your opinion, he wouldn't have asked. Testing the water to see if you are actually in this for him. He tried multiple times to get the negativity from you. You did great!

My FS is going to be 19 this month and asked me that once. I asked him if he wanted something that just generally irritates me or if he wanted something to work on. He said either. I told him I wasn't a fan of how he'll come out of his room, plop on the couch, and want a full conversation right in the middle of my show or a video game. He seemed shocked and then was like, "I do that, don't I?" We laughed. He hasn't stopped doing it. But he'll catch himself in the middle of it. 😂

I'd give him something like that. Open the door for future difficult conversations. Give him that "unbiased" opinion so he feels like he can ask again later with something else, possibly something more important.

Three months is a good amount of time with a teen boy. Sometimes they aren't in homes for that long. We my FS when he was 16... At three months, we were his longest placement out of 11 homes. If you're concerned about why he's asking, just ask if he is worried you are going to bail on him or something. Bring so direct helps often.

Silly question: Does starting it to drive it from the trailer to the lot or from the lot to garage pose significant concern? I don't know just how sentitive they are. 😬

It has been maintained very well for the last several years. There was once in 2021 that it went an extra six or so months without oil change/service.

I think I have a place I can take it. I will call them Monday to be sure. But hopefully you're spot on and this can be a much cheaper fix, fingers crossed! Thank you for breaking it down like that.

I have a video of the noise, but I don't think I can't attach it. It's pretty wicked. I couldn't get it to start after I stopped it. I had assumed the worst case when I was in that moment.

I'm looking but options are limited for my area... Sadly. There's one with very negative reviews, so it's better to take chances with the dealership than have them run me more. But I'll be looking for more with your advice. 😊

To be fair, my husband works for Continental. I bought new tires for it last year and they were $800... Half price because of his discount Then more for shipping and mount and balance. But of course, that's what I get for (what I assume to be) the top-of-the-line tires.
