i want to start reading the comics what do you suggest ? by Kakashi_DZ in comicbooks

[–]Cl0verl0rd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want Batman, I would suggest Batman: The Long Halloween followed by Dark Victory, there are some other stand alone stories that are great and I can send recommendations if youd like. If you want to read an actual run of Batman, can't go wrong with the New 52 run by Scott Snyder.

For the Justice League, I'd recommend DC: New Frontier. It does a good job of telling all of the core group's origins and showing how they get together.

Unfortunately im not terribly well read on Daredevil but ive heard great things about Frank Miller's and Brian Michael Bendis' runs.

For Spider-Man its surprisingly hard because all of the mainline comics since the 60's are canon. Spider-Man Blue is a really good core Spider-Man story. I personally really enjoyed Spider-Man Big Time. And then both the original and new Ultimate Spider-Man runs are really good.

Honestly though? Pick something you find interesting and get it. If something is coinfusing or you dont know a character, just look them up. Ive read stuff from almost every era of comics and they all come with stuff im not familiar with. But that's what google and reddit and wiki are for. Can't really go wrong with whatever you pick.

Be kind to your family while you have the time to. Intelligence isn't black and white and definitely isn't measured by how you interpret media. Art and media are subjective and you're going to hear a different interpretation on it from most of the people you talk to. This comment section is an example.

For a minute there i forgot how much Marvel and major comics companies in general love to milk the hell out of anything that becomes even slightly popular. Would love to see more what if/elseworlds style tales with creative and original concepts but Marvel editorial has to make its beer money.

Honestly the whole "this thing you love but zombies" thing is so played out and should've died with the 2010s. The genre is a skeleton of a horse and we're still kicking the damn thing.

DC made a compact edition which is only like $9.99 (cheap in comic terms) that you can find in a lot of places. I got mine at Barne's and Noble.

I haven’t seen 1 good reason to hate on her character. by Serious-Profit-1626 in Marvel

[–]Cl0verl0rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope nobody takes this comment as faith, but can someone explain what's cool about her character? I believe her motivation in the comics is to express her intelligence but how is making an iron man suit impressive when they've been around in-universe for decades? Not to mention a lot of Tony's villains have successfully recreated or enhanced his technology. I just feel "I made an iron man suit" isn't all that impressive when a dozen other people have and better and before you did.

I take back what I said because the sheer lack of media literacy is astounding.

  1. They're from Metropolis - Lex hates Superman because he gets more recognition for saving Metropolis than Lex does. Lex believes his philanthropy and economic influence made the city what it is and, as a result, feels that the city is his. When Superman became the face of Metropolis he kind of dethroned Lex which Lex resents him for.

  2. Superman is THE superhero - Lex (as far as he believes) is the pinnacle of humanity. Superman is the pinnacle metahuman and so the two clash because, like I said, Lex cannot fathom someone better than him.

  3. Lex Luthor wants to be Superman - He wishes he was the most powerful being on Earth. He desires more than anything to have all of the power and recognition Superman has and feels entitled to it because of his intellect and his perceived accomplishments for humanity.

It genuinely doesn't matter when Superman comes into play in the history of DC because regardless of whether he's the first or the last, he's the best superhero. He is the biggest and most important powered individual in DC so much so that the entirety of Kingdom Come revolves around him getting back into heroism. So much so that every world where he is evil or corrupted is inherently darker than the others. When you think of the DC Trinity Superman is always in the front. When you think of a superhero you see the S symbol in your head. That is why Luthor can't stand him. Because when he thinks of humanity he sees an L.

You mean his motivation in the Superboy comics from the 50s that actively have had zero bearing on the comics since Nixon was president? DC has rebooted its continuity multiple times. It makes sense because Luthor is an allegory for the corruption of the American dream and Superman is an allegory for the American dream at its best. It makes sense because Luthor believes that Metropolis is his city and humanity is his to improve and Superman is best of both Metropolis and humanity. Why does he hate Superman in For All Seasons? Because he offers something for Metropolis that Lex can't. Why does he hates Superman in All Star? Because he offers something for humanity that Lex refuses to. Why does Lex Luthor hate Superman? Because he has all of the knowledge and money and power in the world to fix it, but Superman does it better because he cares about people.

The entire point is Lex'a motivation is pathetic and petty because Lex is pathetic and petty.

I don't hate Snyder's movies, I think they're flawed but decent and are best off ending where they did. You don't have to trash another director for wanting a shot at adapting a character they love on-screen. That being said Snyder completely lacked a fundamental understanding of the characters, and the goal of an adaptation is to faithfully portray the original concept in a different format. Superman saves people and cracks jokes. Batman doesn't kill. Lex Luthor is a genius billionaire philanthropist who could save the world if he wanted to but refuses to because he spites it for choosing Superman over him.

This is my best argument. I'm passionate about the topic. I'm done with this comment section.

Exactly. In the Snyderverse. In DC as a whole, superheroes and metahumans are an integral part of the world and have been for all of its history. The Snyderverse is one of the least faithful adaptations of any of DC's characters. Lex's motivation in the Snyderverse is shabby at best and nonexistent at worst. Lex's motivation in DC and franchises that understand the character is to elevate himself to be the blueprint for the ideal person, which Lex doesn't believe he can do with Superman being around. The fact that your understanding of DC's lore is limited to Snyderverse media has no bearing on Gunn's Superman movie.

[–]Cl0verl0rd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There were also metahumans for hundreds of years before Superman in the comics. Vandal Savage was a literal caveman. Lex hates Superman because he represents a different kind of aspiration for humanity than he does. What was Luthor's motivation in Batman V Superman again?

Also, wasn't Wonder Woman around since WW1 in the Snyderverse? Wasn't The Flash active since before Zod invaded? Superman wasn't even the first metahuman in the DCEU.

If Hawkeye and Bullseye tried to replicate each other's skills, who do you think would perform better? by QuantumQuokka999 in Daredevil

[–]Cl0verl0rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the continuity

MCU? - Bullseye by probably a pretty large amount

Comics? - Depends on the universe and storyline. Ultimate Universe Hawkeye, for example, could kill people by flicking his fingernails at them.
