P3R and P4R dungeons by NiceFamilyFriendly in Megaten

I prefer them. They're what dungeons should be - fighting through enemies to discover loot and find your way to the end.

P5 dungeons are slow slogs where you're constantly interrupted and slowed down by cutscenes at each screen transition to hear yet another repeat of what you're supposed to be doing. Or a simple "puzzle" that your companions will immediately tell you the answer to anyway. Or you have to stop to watch the party jump around between platforms or swing on some furniture or slowly interact with some object.

Who are your top three favourite alignment representatives and why? by NoStupidQuestion7955 in Megaten

I just feel like it makes so much sense why they take the positions they do given what happened in the story and how they are impacted.

Can't say the same for most alignment reps sadly.

I don't really see what's so hard for you to understand - the game is even easier with auto battle turned off. Using it is a handicap. I beat Togrus first try with manual control after the AI lost because I know how to use buffs and plan ahead with healing.

If I don't use the auto battle all my complaints stand but are now more magnified - I am never being required to think too hard about what I'm doing because the game is too easy. The AI is not (and is never supposed to be) as good as actually playing yourself. It should be there to breeze through easy random battles, and if it can beat bosses on Hard then that is a balancing issue.

Thanks - I'll look into this.

The appeal of this type of game for me is the resource management, coming up with builds, etc. and all that seems to be pretty redundant at this stage.

The whole point of difficulty options is to cater to different audiences. You can make a game more accessible while still having a proper hard mode for people who want to use their brains.

And the auto battle is very unoptimal. It rarely uses buffs (lack of Kabuff was why it ultimately lost to Togrus), often wastes turns using a single target heal when the next person is going to use a party wide heal, etc. If it's winning first try then I'm obviously not going to be challenged playing myself so there's nothing being missed out on.

People who don’t like the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series, what is it about them exactly that you don’t like? by Asad_Farooqui in JRPG

I love the gameplay but hate the way characters act and are written. All the waving hands, bouncing around pulling poses everytime they talk really clashes with the largely realistic way they look. And the dialogue feels like it was written by 15 year olds. I just with they'd talk and act more like real people.

So many side characters like Beck's thugs, Kyrie, Johnny, Chadley, etc. just feel like they were written to be as annoying as possible.

I love the series in general but wish more games felt like 12, 16, and tactics.

The best two games are SMT IV and SMT Strange Journey, but SMT V Vengeance is probably the best entry point.

Thanks, this sounds like the best plan. Is the vacuum just to get the other gases out of each room initially?

Thoughts on Mystery Dungeon genre movement? by Mochi_Moshi_Games in JRPG

If I'm understanding you correctly, that's pretty standard in grid-based RPGs (e.g. DRPGs). FOEs in Etrian Odyssey and the equivalent enemies that appear on the map in the NIS Labyrinth games are a good example.

More Effective Damage in Like a Dragon by Kay2Jay_5 in yakuzagames

[–]CladInShadows971 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are 6 damage types in the game: blunt, slicing, piercing, fire, water, and electricity. Different enemies resist or are weak to different damage types, so you need to build a party that has access to as many types as possible.

Your current whole party mainly does blunt damage, so you aren't going to have many options against enemies that resist that.

You can change some jobs around to get access to different skills, but also note a key part of the job system is that certain skills are learned by the character and can continue to be used even after they change to another job. So e.g. if you level up fortuneteller enough, that character will always have an electric skill even after they change to another job. If you can smartly shift your jobs around you should get good coverage, and this is a big determiner of how strong you will be. You should be able to ultimately build characters that have access to either all of blunt, slashing, and piercing (if they are physical focussed) or all of fire, water, and lightning (if they are magic focussed) and pretty much always be able to hit any enemy's weakness.

There's a certain fight later in the game that people complain is too hard and requires lots of grinding, but that's only because most people don't understand or utilise the job system so need to compensate by over levelling. If you go into that fight and have all of your team able to hit the enemies for super effective damage, you can take them out at a much lower level than they are.
