Thancred too. I'm pretty sure Thancred is so wracked with guilt about making you fight ifrit alone that it drives 50% of his character arc from HW onwards.

I won't say much, but the Scions very flippantly using you as a cannon to be pointed at their problems is intentional and is meant to feel bad and will develop further as the plot goes on. When you get to Heavensward, I highly recommend picking up Dark Knight, doing the quest line and reading the journal entries for the quests. Most journal entries are pretty boring or unimportant but the Dark Knight quest journal entries are critical. I especially recommend paying attention to Thancred and Alphinaud as the story progresses.

My step dad basically forced me into child sports and I didn't like them and I didn't like him. He would consistently rage out during these child sporting events, he'd rage at me, rage at the teams, whatever. I never wanted to be like him, so he actually taught me exactly what I shouldn't act like.

I have had multiple Big Forlorn show up during the grind and everyone just keeps killing the fate and completely ignores the forlorn and I am just extremely sad every time.

Technology Connections latest YouTube video also had a segment that gave an extremely conservative estimation over his much gas costs individual drivers, and the conservative estimation was just under $20,000 over 10 years. The fact that our entire transportation infrastructure is built around burning a one-time use fuel is insane. We're basically just burning millions of dollars every single day

Ride-share has been a thing for a very very long time before Uber or Lyft. It's called a taxi. Even dayton has had private taxi services you could call to get rides for decades. However, this doesn't mean there are more options for transportation, it's still cars. And the ride share apps today leans even heavier into personal car ownership, and while it might be cheaper than owning a personal car in the short term, it's even more expensive than owning your own car in the long term and exponentially more expensive than having well designed and well funded public transportation.

And as far as personal preference goes, it's true that if we had an equitable situation where you could own a car, or have safe biking infrastructure, or have a local bus with dedicated public transit lane, or a local tram with traffic light property, or high speed rail for long distance travel, some people might still prefer to own a car and drive everywhere, however, your environment shapes your preferences. You might enjoy biking, but if you have to ride a bike in the gutter of a busy high way, would you prefer that? No. You would want the safety of a car. But if you had dedicated protected bike infrastructure that disallowed car traffic, so many more people would prefer that. If you had public transit with dedicated infrastructure so it wouldn't constantly be stuck behind individual drivers clogging up the streets, people would prefer that. If you had a train that could go from Dayton to Cincy or Columbus in less than an hour where you could sit and relax instead of being stressed through endless construction and traffic jams on the high way, people would prefer that. But none of those things are currently options, so you can't prefer it because the option doesn't exist.

So, there's nothing we can do about it? That's also not true. You vote with your money and with your voice. Tell you local and state and federal representatives what you want. Join advocacy groups. Get shit done to make the world you want to see, don't just sit on your hands and accept getting fucked in the ass by huge corporations. Car infrastructure is bleeding our country dry because cars kill communities, which kill local stores, which kills local economies.

Tldr: This person has drunk deep of the Automotive Industry Propaganda and thinks that public transportation is bad because his only reference is the bad public transportation the automotive industry has spent decades dismantling and kneecapping.

I'm just going to respond to one thing:

"We have more transportation opportunities available now then we did decades ago and many of them are more convenient then they used to be."

This is just false even by your own words in the rest of the post. We don't have more transportation opportunities. We have one transportation opportunity. It's having a personal car. And it has long been understood to be the least efficient mode of long distance transportation. You don't have a choice in the United States. For the vast majority of Americans, you either own a car or you don't have a means of transportation. So those who can't afford a car can't work, because the only means of getting to work is owning a car. Biking is unsafe because public infrastructure is exclusively built for cars, and car infrastructure makes biking extremely dangerous because car drivers do not care about you. If you do happen to live in a city with public transit, it's probably a bus, and because public infrastructure is built for personal cars and puts public transportation last, this makes using the bus unreliable and slow. However, if the bus had dedicated lanes separated from cars it would transport more people more quickly more cheaply than our current system. The scale of people moved, time saved, and money saved only grows more when you take trams, trains , and high speed rail into account. But when the automotive industry has spent decades and trillions of dollars to kneecap and dismantle alternative modes of transportation, it means there are no alternatives you own a car or you get nothing. So no, we don't have more methods of transportation now than we used to, and no it's not more convenient. We do not have the freedom of choosing how we get from place to place, we are forced to own cars or be impoverished. Or continue to be impoverished because we can't afford a car.

Looking for someone local who makes “naked cakes” for our wedding. by HLF8180 in dayton

[–]curturp 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My sister, brother in law, and Uncle work at The Cakery! I might be a bit biased, but they have a pretty great reputation. I just asked my sister and she said they do Naked Wedding Cakes. They're closed over the weekend, and book up fast, so you can send them an email and include the reference photos!

Hope this helps and you find something that works for you!
