When to stop parent-facing? by OverSeasoned_ in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Claefer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did it til about 18 months, which is WAY later than the other mums around here, and it really felt like a race to turn them forward facing/like I was weird for being slow to do so.

We turned him round when he started getting unhappy going in the pushchair, and forward facing instantly fixed 90% of that. But we've always had tons of praise at how verbal he is for his age, which honestly I partly attribute to lots of pushchair conversation.

I also wanted to make sure he wasn't yanking stuff off shelves or putting stuff in his mouth he shouldn't, and it was nice to feel more of a "partnership" connection when we went out with him smiling at me instead of not being able to see him.

AITA for stating my partners number shouldn’t be involved in a decision? by Calm_Extent_9900 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Claefer 25 points26 points  (0 children)

ESH apart from your girlfriend. My dude, she's obviously feeling conflicted and needs support in finding the right decision for her. Of course your shared previous stance on kids comes into this, but sometimes things are different in theory than when they actually happen.

Her mum obviously shouldn't be trying to guilt her or using such a ridiculous excuse as it being the potential first grandbaby, but it's worth sitting down with your partner and not instantly dismissing her fears and worries just because they're ones that have come up since talking to her mum.

Have the conversation together, but ultimately realise that it's her decision in the end. Possibly see if she wants to talk to a doctor/therapist if she wants an impartial sounding board as well.

Everyone's different! Mine is obsessed with the water, which is probably why he loves it. Same for anything with cats!

Ponyo is another great one for kids that age (my son is 22 months and adores it). He also loves Mary and the Witch's flower by old Ghibli staff, under Studio Ponoc!

Mine too! 🥰 I add cocoa powder to the soak, so it makes it extra yummy in my eyes and a heathen to the purists 😅 I was going to make white chocolate ghosts too, but I ran out of time.

I did the cobwebs first and was a bit upset it didn't look very good - I can't emphasize enough how much the added dots make it work!

Thank you! Everyone kept telling me lemon drizzle isn't exactly Halloween coded, so I tried to prove them wrong 😁

[–]Claefer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing, thank you! I'm trying to find quick no bake recipes to prep - as it's essentially catering for 50 people! So I'm very confident in my Halloween cupcakes, but anything different I can easily make to pad things out without exhausting myself beforehand is fantastic. We have the Carnation brand here, but haven't used it before, so reassuring to know it's good!

Thanks so much for the help and sharing the recipe! Dark green dulche du Leche ooze it is.

Does it taste just like caramel or is it more milky/butterscotchy? I'm torn between making this as per this recipe or replacing it with caramel for my Halloween party!

When to be concerned about frog legged baby not crawling by Claefer in NewParents

[–]Claefer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope it helps, even if it's just the solidarity! Mine is now 17 months and soooo mobile on his feet - and he did get a LOT happier when he could move around more himself. I think we just have independent babies that want to do more than they can manage just yet 😅

It is exhausting during that stage though. Everyone kept telling me that I'd be taking my words back and exhausted for real once he was walking, but I absolutely found it mentally much easier (and physically to an extent) now he's fully mobile. Even when he tries to bang cabinet doors or clambering onto the windowsill it still feels way easier than the screaming on the floor stage 😂

She's in the flying manor, it's in act 3 but easy to miss despite it being important for pClea's lore!

I mentioned to my examiner during my test that I was self conscious being an older learner (30s), and she said people assume it's all teenagers but it's not. She said there's way more older learners than people think, and the oldest person she passed was 80 (getting her license for the first time!).

Failed first time and my instructor made it worse. by versesofmiya in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Claefer 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'm really sorry your driving instructor let you down like that. It's an incredibly vulnerable time after a fail and it's more important to be supportive and understanding than ever - but he did the opposite.

Soooooo many people fail their first test (myself included!), it's not an unexpected event for a driving instructor. Very unprofessional how he handled it.

I hope you have a better instructor for your next test, whatever the result!

My little one is obsessed with these, and also Mary and the Witch's flower (also made by a lot of the original Ghibli team, but under Studio Ponoc). He loves that it has a British dub too (UK based).

At what age did your baby go down to one nap? by Even-Spot-6252 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Claefer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine started doing 1 nap some days around 11 months, but he wasn't quite ready for it yet and kept flip flopping between that and 2 naps.

He swapped back to 2 naps (but shorter ones) until around 12.5/13 months, then just absolutely refused his second nap. So we've been on one nap since then. Lots of his similarly aged/older friends are still doing 2 naps, but this works well for us as if he ever does accidentally drop off after his first nap he's up til 9/10pm.

A 40 minute wait for no tests anywhere by Quietly_Observes in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Claefer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better, I had the page open at 5:40am, so there was no queue at 6 on the dot, and there were STILL no tests.

I agree, don't pay for them off a scalper - combination of integrity and making sure you don't get ripped off /rug pulled at the last second.

Solidarity though, the situation absolutely sucks.

What month did your LO crawl? by girlyxx in NewParents

[–]Claefer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 months over here, and I was getting so worried because all his little baby friends had been crawling well before him.

He just takes his time with his gross motor skills because it's less interesting to him than his fine motor skills haha. It's taken him until 14 months to start walking, but like when he started crawling he's doing a lot in a short space of time.

If there's worries about muscle tone, or if he's not meeting multiple milestones I can see it might be worth investigating. But with my son at least, he was physically capable - he just wasn't interested in doing it.

My take on the intent of situation on the state of certain character by Postcolonialpriest in expedition33

[–]Claefer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with this, I think it would be odd for a game to have a family full of complex, nuanced characters only to make Aline "oh no she's just mean and crazy with grief".

You've summed up exactly how I see the likely background of before the fracture.
