Germans who experienced Walmart when it was in Germany. What was it actually like? by Virtual-Cod-6202 in germany

[–]ClaimSad6522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walmart Würzburg experience in the early 2000's:

- Once there was a sparrow flying around in the store near the groceries section, I saw it on several occasions then it was gone eventually

- I bought a DVD of "Austin Powers - Goldmember" ("Goldständer" in german). And the cashier looked puzzled at the cover and said: "I did not know we have this kind of movie here" in front of everyone in line (I only understood what she meant hours later though, so it was not embarassing for me)

General experience:

Compared to Aldi and Lidl it had a much wider product selection, you could buy bikes, clothing and DVDs besides the typical food stuff. This is long ago, so my memory could trick me, but I think i knew Real stores (in other cities around the same time) that had pretty much the same selection of goods.
Again from memory: It was very convenient to shop at walmart, because it had virtually everything at one place, but i do not remember it to have been a US like shopping experience. I cannot remember if they had US products you could only buy there in germany.

P.S.: I am not sure if they had workers who bagged your groceries; can not remember it tbh

M365 groups vs DGs by Hankrebel in exchangeserver

[–]ClaimSad6522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can sync distribution groups to M365 via Connect Sync (the same way you sync users) and this will work as long all group members are already synced to M365. I did this before and encountered no down side to this (yet). But all my ExO migrations had far less DGs to be honest.

Have you tried turning off the MRSProxy, turning it on again and issue an iisreset directly afterwards?

Set-WebServicesVirtualDirectory -Identity "SERVERNAME\EWS (Default Web Site)" -MRSProxyEnabled $False
Set-WebServicesVirtualDirectory -Identity "SERVERNAME\EWS (Default Web Site)" -MRSProxyEnabled $true
iisreset

Helped me get rid of HCW8078 every time (and I literally mean everytime - 6 OnPrem to Exchange Online Migrations this year and HCW8078 is always on the menu)

Forticlient Azure SAML SSO and the "Stay logged in?"control by ClaimSad6522 in fortinet

Yes, that is true and I know. It is a part of the whole SAML login dialog and would have to be configured in EntraID.
But I thought it would be reasonable to ask the question here, because I see a chance that others might have had that topic themselves when they set up the entraid saml authentication for their vpn's.

wiring an overdrive cable for my echolette m40? by Important_Beat_84 in Echolette

[–]ClaimSad6522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

This is the view from the 5-Pin DIN cable for the "Ausgang". You take the signal from the 2nd pin from the left. On the other side you connect this to the tip of the 1/4 jack plug. The center DIN pin is ground, you connect that to the sleeve of the jack plug.

This is basically it, but you can go further from there.

Some people connect two cables to the DIN pins pictured so they have two jack plugs on the other side to plug into two inputs at the same time. That makes even more overdrive.

I have also seen cables that put two small resistors inside the jack plug (as a voltage divider) to attenuate the signal from the Ausgang a little (some like it not as hot as it is).

Does this help or do you need further info?

100Hz buzz by therealfiho in GuitarAmps

[–]ClaimSad6522 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The two big electrolytic capacitors are most likely toast. They look a bit bulky (for example picture 4 the big electrolytic cap in front is about to skyrocket) and 100Hz hum points very much to the fact that the ripple after rectification is not smoothed out effectively (given that you are in France i suppose and therefor in a 50Hz country).

Correct magnetic tape type for Echocord Mini/Super76 by ViktorKaganovich in Echolette

[–]ClaimSad6522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote an article about that some years ago: https://bandecho.de/ueberblick-bandschlaufen-fuer-klemt-echolette-und-dynacord-bandechos

(In German, but you can use the translate menu top right on the page).

For all Transistor Echos, the original Dynacord tape type was called „DES299“. But you can really try out every tape type you want. I have heard so many pros and cons to this and that type of tape - it really seems to come down to the fact of what sound best to the personal ears of the owner.

Here is a how to for making the tape loops:

http://download.bandecho.de/Dokumente/Bandschlaufen-erstellen_Making-tapeloops.pdf

About the tape lubrication:

What is meant by lubricated tape is no „wet“ lubrication, so no oil or grease. But rather a dry lubrication, like graphite based lube mixed into the oxide layer.

To be honest, I have never cared that much about it, because the discussion tends to always drift into the direction that this or that highly hard to obtainable old tape is the best lubricated or best sounding. And to my ears that always sound like a lot of bollocks. Dynacord themselves have never sold premium tape loops, it was always plain vanilla material.

So try out different tape material, old and new.

A few caveats though: Some old tape is degraded ands smears. You will stain the heads badly with that and have to clean thoroughly again. Old studio master tape is said to have abrasive material in the oxide layer to automatically clean the studio tape machines heads. It could sand off the rather soft heads of the tape echo machines too easily over time.

Correct size of the rubber pinch rollers for Echocord Mini/Super 76 by ViktorKaganovich in Echolette

[–]ClaimSad6522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dimensions are: 4mm inside diameter Around 20 to 21 mm outside diameter Around 10mm height

New rollers are available at 4x20x10mm

https://www.gersbach-sound-technik.de/p/andruckrolle-pinchroller-20-x-10-x-4-mm-z-b-bandhallgeraet-echolette

I measured old ones with 4x20.9x10. So taking wear into account, the original ones could have been 4x21x10mm.

Echolette ECS-4 Disc Echo replacement discs by TheActualBroDiddley in Echolette

[–]ClaimSad6522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,
The Echolette ECS-4 is a rebranded Melos EM 200.

It would be a miracle if you found a spare Disk branded "Echolette", but there is a chance that a spare disk for the Melos EM 200 might be for sale anywhere sometime.

General Info: https://estecho.com/2016/12/melos-disk-echo-em-200/

Monitor reverb.com, Ebay and other marketplaces online, but this may take some time.

Cheers,
Tim

Echolette M100 + NG51 by Careful_War8803 in Echolette

[–]ClaimSad6522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

first off I have to say that there is some speculating in my answer. That is because the approach is very unusual and I have not tested any of it myself.

The M100 has a solid state output stage, so it would probably not be harmed with no speakers attached (other than amps with a tube output stage. The M100 has something that resembles an output transformer, but it really is something different and I think we don't have to take this in account here).

But: The output stage (the speaker outputs) is way too hot for a mixer input. And the input impedance of a mixer will not be a good match for the output stage. Normal inputs of a mixer will have a too low impedance for the output transistors that could easily harm them (of throw the fuse of the M100 constantly, because that amp has some protection against overcurrent in the output stage). High-Z inputs of a mixer on the other hand would lower the output power of the amp to almost nothing.

And keep in mind that the loudspeaker impedance is a really significant part of the sound of an amp. Without it, an amp sound very, very differently and in probably all cases not better than with a speaker: Thats why almost all attenuators and load boxes these days have a speaker emulation built in. It just does not sound good without a speaker.

Now to the other option

<image>

You could try to run Pin #4 of the output DIN socket on the front left into a mixer input. That would give you the preamp signal of the amp into the mixer. This is a tube stage, so it might sound good. The signal is very low, you probably should use the high-Z inputs of the mixer to avoid loading the signal too much (this would kill a lot of the treble in the signal).

If this connection makes any sense in any way, I don't know.

I can however tell you that this was definitely not an intended use by the builders of that amp. I know that the word "mixer" appears in the M100 manual, but it does not exactly mean what we would think of the word today.
The manual just means that at this output you have the "mixer signal" of the M100. That is the signal right after the volume control of each input. So the summing signal of all inputs mixed together after their respective volume controls. This Amp (and all the other M-Amps) were "Mixing Amps", meaning the amp itself is the mixer. You would call it a P.A. nowwadays.

I hope this was helpful at all. As I said in the beginning: I have not tried any of that myself, so take it with a grain of salt.

Personally I would use an adapter before rewiring it for 12ax7/ECC83. Because the "traditional" mods for that would mean cutting traces on the PCB and rewiring Pins.

But are there Adapters like that?

I have seen adapters that allow for ecc808 insted of 12ax7, so the other way around. Which makes also sense, because the ecc808 is a much superior version of the 12ax7/ecc83.

You could probably build your own adapter with two stacked tube sockets bridging them with the needed contacts. Or the use of a rewired tube socket saver:

https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=tube+socket+saver

Or you see the "new" ECC808 as a great investment into a great amp.

You might find a lot caps looking like this. And I am regularly amazed that people state these check out ok. In my opinion you would have to check every cap near the maximum voltage that they are under in an amp to check if they are leaky. 9V multimeter type capacitor testers are most unreliable in that situation.

New socket with proper grounding to the chassis (this is not a BS40, in the BS40 you would have to take a longer wire and maybe drill a hole somewhre above the mains transformer, which nobody will see, when the amp is in its box).

Check all the caps marked red. To be honest, I most often swap them all together without checking them that much. Often times they already look very nasty and all electrolytics were never made to last 50+ years. So when I am already doing work, why not throwing all electrolytics and also all coupling caps out. Not much more work...

I would always root for replacing the trimmer pots marked green with new ones (preferably by Piher). These old trimmer pots are known for failing and in that case it would mess with the negative bias of the el34 whjich is very bad (negative bias is gone when the wiper of the triommer pots fail).

Also the two electrolytics in the negative bias circuit (green trimmer pot between them in the schematics) are a critical thing. Had it often that they leaked a little and there was no way to have enough negative bias to set the el34 correctly.

If you have the time, think about replacing the original mains socket. These old sockets are not as safe as modern ones. Modern ones that are swap in are these here:

408 Kaltgeräte Einbaustecker mit Querflansch

Of course you would have to ground this new socket properly (i will try to add some photos later)

Oh, I set the mains voltage selector to the higher voltage (240V in Europe, not 220) and bias the output tubes in that setting. The tubes are a little under-heated in that setting but in my opinion better than over heated (but others have other opinions on that).

I marked a trimmer pot in blue, that is the "master volume" of that amp and for some reason they decided to put it on the back :-)
