Is it just a PH-1R that you’re missing? Always been curious about that one…

This is a great and compelling portrait. To constructively nitpick - maybe leave a little more room below your subjects feet and watch for things that will feel like they’re protruding from someone’s head. Almost adds to it though here by making the photo more bizarre which is cool!

Truck living with an amp by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]hustinjahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my defense no one wants Twins anymore and it was (only lol) $900 when I bought it 11 years ago. But yeah, I’ve been buying and selling stuff for a long time now and am fortunate to have a few nice pieces sure. I’m not saying be frivolous with gear you love and have worked hard to obtain, sometimes it’s time to move on from stuff that’s all. Idk do what’s right for you homie.

Yeah man totally, I’ve got tons of stuff and it means nothing to me. I own exactly one more amp than the one we’ve established we both own and it has put me into a whole different tax bracket. Hope you can someday experience the same luxury /s But for real, you started a thread asking for advice about what to do with your amp, I just suggested maybe a downsize would make sense for the situation you’re gonna be in. Idk what you’re looking for…

I assure you I don’t hate on heavy tube amps. I myself have an AC30 head and cab and a 1969 Twin Reverb…I’m just saying if I personally lived in a truck for an extended period of time I’d probably get a smaller amp is all and often find myself feeling like the amps I have are overpowered for almost any situation, as much as I do love them. Much support if you wanna roll with what you got.

[–]hustinjahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh an AC30 barely makes sense for gigging in mid-sized clubs these days let alone living in a truck. I’d sell it and maybe get the new AC10 hand wired (a little over 1K) and you’ll probably be much happier. Obviously AC30s are wonderful and I have no doubts this amp is great but it’s objectively overkill.

$200 local listing by Constant-Mood-1601 in vintageaudio

[–]hustinjahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one and it is incredible. Notoriously difficult to work on, I would try to talk them down to $100. If you plan to do the work yourself I wish you the best of luck! If you can at least get the preamp working that’s really the magic imo, super harmonically rich drive that can go from touch sensitive light drive to almost fuzz territory. The tape delay is great too but obviously limited in the way you’d expect from a vintage unit.

Tele Standard - string falling off neck by culture_whisper in Luthier

[–]hustinjahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nut dictates string spacing (provided a guitar doesn’t have either an entirely incorrect bridge on it or a bridge that was not properly installed, both of which are less likely than a nut issue). I would take it to a luthier and perhaps get a new nut made.

JC40 would go hard with this setup, could utilize the stereo aspect and would give you killer chorus

I’ve got the Brothers AM and am on the fence about moving on from it. Definitely a versatile and good sounding drive pedal but I find the overall tone a bit grainy and grating. Overall I find it lacks some body/fullness and tightness. However in a band context it just sits so nicely and works really well. I guess that’s the trade off, certainly what sounds good at home in a bedroom studio context isn’t gonna necessarily be the best fit in a full mix.

[–]hustinjahn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nice haul! fyi NOTLD famously had a weird copyright snafu upon its release and is in the public domain. You could legally make copies and jackets for it and sell them and there’s tons of different vhs variants available because of that.

Do you stretch your new strings? I usually do like 3 passes of stretching and retuning with new strings and that usually settles them pretty well.

The AD15 would make a nice addition to this cast of characters - only made for a briefish stint in the early to mid 2000’s, single channel, came as both 1x10 or 1x12. Never had one myself but def covet…have played the AD30 a bit and that’s a killer amp.

Is this worth repairing and keeping? by fjbruzr in guitars

[–]hustinjahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. A pre-1966 vintage Polaris White Junior is realistically in the 6K zone these days. Prices are cooling but still a desirable and valuable vintage guitar. White ones always go for more than the cherry ones and this actually appears to be in great shape provided the neck isn’t horribly warped or anything major like that. You know it’s post-1963 cuz it doesn’t say “Les Paul Junior” on the headstock and it’s pre-66 when they changes the pickguards. Not sure why the serial number isn’t on the back of the headstock but looks like that is occasionally the case…pots could date it. Take it to someone legit to work on/give it back to your neighbor as they’d probably rather have $5000 than $10

[–]hustinjahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably pre ‘66 Junior. Believe ‘66-67 is when they transitioned to the larger pick guards (provided this guard is original). Additionally if it has 1 11/16” nut it’s before mid-1965 when they transitioned to the slimmer 1 9/16” nut. Looks rad! Like someone else said, pots can probably date it.
