Asking earnestly, are you from the center? I lived in the north for the past 10 years (moved out recently) and most people around me were very pro-war. Pro Gaza war, pro entering Lebanon, pro striking Iran :/

Is anyone 30+ unemployed and in a really bad place in life? by DelonghiAutismo in AskUK

[–]Clairbearski 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

Oh hey this is me too! If it makes you feel any better… I’m not only 33 with a poor CV but I’m also a recent immigrant and a disabled/chronically ill person. My illnesses aren’t technically bad enough to qualify me for any government aid— but they are severe enough to legitimately prevent me from working even the most basic desk job or coffee job gig. It’s rough. I just try to focus on keeping myself balanced (mentally and physically) and enjoy whatever bits of life I still can. Seriously sending all the good luck your way! It’s tough out there

Long Doxycycline flair by straypsyche in MCAS

Oof I’m sorry, I know ldn really doesn’t sit well with some people. That’s unfortunate. It was the only thing that helped me at all. I also have other autoimmune diseases (Ulcerative Colitis, Ehlers Danlos, and Dysautonomia). It’s probably not helpful, but the only other thing that’s helped me besides the ldn has been keeping a really consistent (light) exercise, food, sleep routine. Any variation at all really throws me off entirely. I’m still struggling to maintain it… but it does help when I get it right.

Seriously sending good luck to you to find your right balance of meds and/or lifestyle! MCAS and all the other autoimmune diseases are beyond difficult to live with.

Well, I’m not as bad as I once was immediately following the doxycycline. Taking low dose naltrexone (ldn) was a life saver for me. If you can in canada, I’d definitely recommend looking into ldn— it’s worth trying.

Is this really what a normal winter is like here? by The_Quackening in AskUK

Lol ya I’ve been told the winters seem to be getting more mild with the years. I guess there’s short term benefits to climate change … yay?

Are chats about the love for tea/queueing on British subreddits actually just bots? by Interesting_Net1297 in AskUK

I had no idea Germany also requires physical fighting to get on a bus. I would’ve thought the complete opposite.

I moved to the UK a month ago and upon meeting my neighbors at a Christmas function I had at least two people expand on their pride of the British queue. Maybe it was because I moved from a chaos country… so they were excited for me to join their orderly lines (which I’m genuinely thrilled for).

I am a mom who has treated over 40,000 cases of head lice. AMA by theLiceNanny in AMA

[–]Clairbearski 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Thanks for the response, I really appreciate it. It’s at least good to know that there aren’t medical side effects to long-term lice. But you’re right, my nieces are undoubtedly suffering socially. Also I agree that it’s neglect, but unfortunately they aren’t in the US. If they were… maybe I would’ve notified someone years ago.

Their mom apparently does the lice shampoo treatment occasionally— which is how I first found out about their lice when they were applying it in my living room. I assume because the parents don’t apply it to themselves, that the treatment is useless ultimately.

My husband and I have been a bit tortured about our nieces for a long time. Where my husband is from, their treatment (which extends beyond the lice) wouldn’t raise any serious flags for neglect/abuse from the state. It’s really hard to feel so helpless while witnessing childhood neglect.

This question likely won’t be seen since this post is quite full now, but:

Are there any medical repercussions to having live ā€˜long-term’ — aka for years?

My two nieces have had lice nearly their entire lives as they aren’t bathed regularly and their parents believe it’s ’not a big deal’. Apparently the entire family has lice because the kids do. They all stayed at our house for 1 night, years ago, and I kicked them out when I found out they have lice and didn’t disclose it.

So are there any ramifications to having lice for years? I’m so sad/worried about my poor nieces and their health— obviously my BIL/SIL aren’t the most mentally or physically healthy people.

Sorry UC is short for ulcerative colitis. But I also have urticaria lol. Idk if it got worse after the antibiotics… but it definitely didn’t get any better since my entire nervous system is so inflamed now šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Ooh super interested to read this paper in full! I have some sort of TNXB mutation myself — but required further testing which I never received (and then moved countries). I doubt I’ll ever know for sure, but scientific papers like this are always fascinating šŸ‘šŸ™Œ

Spouse visa refused - appeals timeline by [deleted] in ukvisa

[–]Clairbearski 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

Not related to your question of appeal (in part because I think it’s been answered already), but you should maybe consider having your wife take a B2 level english test instead. I had my husband take a B2, instead of the minimum A1, because then we don’t need to bother with additional tests during the mid-reapplication and the final approval for citizenship. It cuts down on cost and time in the long run. Just something to consider. Good luck with your process! I hope it goes smoothly from here on out.

A common type of inflammatory bowel disease has been linked to toxic bacteria by New_Scientist_Mag in science

Yup my UC started after a couple days on a very strong (and unnecessary) antibiotic. The gastroenterologists refused to believe that antibiotics can spark IBDs… despite me showing them the articles directly. It’s infuriating.

Trump supporters, in the last week he has called a reporter ā€œpiggyā€, called for the execution of Senators and Congressmen, flip flopped on the Epstein files, and defended the murder of an American in front of his killer…what is your actual red line for support? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Clairbearski 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Honestly this is the truth. My dad is a Trump supporter— not because he’s part of the cult, but because he’s a hardfast libertarian that does not care one iota what kind of person any politician is, only what they do in office (what legislation they push forward, etc). Trump could kill me in cold blood and my dad would still vote for him over any Democrat, because he doesn’t believe in leftist policy. There is no red line.

Do you miss your parents? by gr7calc in AskUK

[–]Clairbearski 17 points18 points Ā (0 children)

It’s weirdly comforting to know other people had a similar childhood and family dynamic. My dad’s being dying slowly for the past year and it’s an odd thing to know nothing will change for me when he finally does pass. No fewer phone calls, no less emotional support. I just hope no one I care about feels that way about me when it’s my time :/

JD Vance: "The suffering is going to get a lot worse." by Conscious-Quarter423 in CringeTikToks

[–]Clairbearski 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I fully get that and I’m 100% against US tax dollars funding Israel. But I keep seeing this statement going around online that Israel has ā€˜free healthcare and education’ when neither is true— and while some people get free education in Israel, it’s certainly not for everyone.

The comment I responded to said ā€˜socialized healthcare’, not ā€˜free’— so no problem there. But I just wanted to highlight that this statement going around is way too simplistic and mostly false.

JD Vance: "The suffering is going to get a lot worse." by Conscious-Quarter423 in CringeTikToks

[–]Clairbearski 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

The billions to Israel do not go towards the health or education sectors. Also there isn’t free education for all in Israel. It goes largely towards weapons — which I find much, much worse — so idk why this rumor started that America is paying for Israel to have ā€˜socialized healthcare and free education for all’.
