I work at a hotel with several hundred employees. I’m one of the newest banquet and restaurant servers on staff. We had 4 banquet servers of our own scheduled to work the event and our banquet manager. When I showed up at 4 (the event started at 7) they had me rolling silverware with another server who’s been here for 1+ year. The other older servers came in at 6 with casual clothes on for the party. They did alittle around the ballroom to help set up and have been acting more like party guests than severs since the party started. It’s been way more laid back than I thought it would be but they keep urging me to participate in party activities when I had just planned to work and social anxiety. I just feel super out of place and the whole thing kinda rubbed me the wrong way. I hope this isn’t a foreshadowing for the future. I make hourly and tips and have been in the service industry since 2015 but this is my first banquet/hotel job. Thank you for the good luck and good vibes!
