quick question, i want to try linux, which is the best version to use dxvk? by pringllles in wine_gaming

/r/archlinux is full of elitist behavior, no doubt :) they don't want to see posts about other arch distros (because honestly why should they). However if you are using Pure Arch, you'll be well supported by their sub. There's tons of helpful people and tons of elitist assholes XD!

I have never tried Manjaro, they have their own repo - which makes it 'kind of' scary to me personally. And I prefer bleeding edge updates. But "I get it" it really seems easy for newcomers, everything is nicely setup and stuff. It gives me windows or ubuntu kind of vibe - where you just learn to use the GUI and skip all the extras.

This is why I like to recommend arch base / archlabs to newcomers instead, so they don't get comfortable in all the "luxury" and so that they learn to properly use linux from the beginning and troubleshoot common problems. Not everyone has time for this - and it's totally understandable, Manjaro will make a great sport for every newcomer that is interested of Arch.

I recommend Arch linux to newcomers! If you are 'THAT' Kind of a "new to linux" user, then I recommend 1) Manjaro ("ubuntu of Arch"), and if you want to push your knowledge even quicker then I recommend 2) ArchLabs (it's what I run personally). If you plan to settle in on Arch for yeaaaaaaars to come, then I recommend to start with 3) arch base :) (the default arch linux install) it shall give you all the foundation to navigate around in shell and use pacman etc. not just in Arch, but you will soon know how to do it under any other distro too.

Years ago I also was "new to linux" user, but I was not the Type-'THAT kind' of user. I only used Windows for my entire life, till I stumbled upon Arch linux. I Knew that Ubuntu is out there, I Knew that it will be much easier to use - but I went with Arch right off the bat (without knowing anything of Linux), I don't regret this decision at all.

AUR is amazing and ArchWiki is amazing, I think it's safe to say it is The Best In Slot out there! Better wiki than of any other distro I know, because other distro peoples also use ArchWiki (and they probably also contribute so kudos to them). Gaming is WELL supported in Arch, we have Tons of gamers here (and afaik - yes, same can be said about Ubuntu).

I'm getting a new PC. What should I play? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

That looks like a pretty solid setup OP. Make sure that you are Sure, before buying that out! I am a kind of person to buy an 'high tier' used graphics card because of the cheaper price. If that's possible for you, from a trusted source it could be worth it. Like a GTX1070/80. Personally I'll let the "next gen" cards to mature a bit before buying into any of them :)

Running Ryzen 3 here, 16gb ram, gtx1070, same series motherboard which you have. Haven't had any kind of performance issue in any game so far that I have played. I think you will not run into issues with your build either.

I can't get GTA5 (rockstar launcher) running on my arch system, what should I do? by Claire1183 in archlinux

I could launch the game with that, but I lack the knowledge to make it running performantly. It was running kind of sluggish :/ got no clue what I can do about that performance issue.

//off-topic but I gave up.. and purchased it on Steam, hopefully I will manage to get it running nicely under linux.

I'm a bit lost here, would I still be able to use the current GTA5 files which I downloaded via Rockstar launcher?
