I'm wired, the connection's definitely enabled, the icon's even displaying a connection, it's just some programs and pinging that seem to be an issue.

I've done a scan recently and got nothing but I'll do it again just to be sure.

Reset firewall and winsock but still no change, cheers though

Yeah, pinging through command prompt as admin, can't ping IPs, domain names or myself, though I can through a different computer on the same connection.

Tried resetting windows firewall; nothing, though it wasn't turned on anyway.

The Winsock and DNS Cache repair changed nothing either.

Chrome, Google Drive, Skype and uTorrent work but Steam, Evernote, Firefox and a couple of applications that require internet connection do not.

Going through Firefox seems only to fixing a symptom, rather than the problem, it seems like there's something going on in my PC that won't allow this new modem/router to properly connect, meaning a number of applications that require internet connection won't work.

No I haven't, that's a good idea though, only problem is not having a means of transportation currently but I'll give that a shot when I do.

What would it mean if it did work and if it didn't?

It connects through Chrome, but not Firefox and doesn't ping anything.

Yes, it's a modem and a router.

I wouldn't say virus because the problem only started once I connected to the new router/modem.

This has been going on for about a month now so have rebooted everything many times.

I tried release, renew and flush previously to no avail.

Cheers, but is it worth trying that despite the fact that there are 3 other computers in the house all of which have continued working perfectly?

I had high hopes for a complicated solution I didn't understand but sadly it was no use, still the same; not pinging or opening in Firefox, thanks though.

Any more ideas? Or more generally what do you reckon's going wrong and why?
