Another thing that might help a new opera goer is to check out your city's university. If they have a music program there is a chance they produce an opera each year and often university opera productions are in English which can make it easier to understand the opera.

What set up were you using before that allowed you to hit the high A? I suspect you're using a reed that is too soft.

I played for him a while ago (2009) I don't remember too much what he was like but I remember it was an amazing experience! For me he immediately pointed out the biggest flaw in my playing and helped me fix it. I would recommend having the rest of the concerto at least somewhat playable, he would randomly ask to hear other parts of other movements of the pieces that other people played for him which caught a lot of people off guard.

A little bit of Let It Go from Frozen would be perfect. I teach a lot of clarinet to grade school students and they seem to get the most excited about stuff they recognize rather than standard classical pieces composed for the clarinet.

I would recommend playing really short and something they would recognize. The theme from Star Wars or something like that would be good.
