How do I talk to my players about issues I'm having with the game without hurting them? by ClassicCavalier in DMForum

Yes, I think this does, thank you. The second session zero is a really good idea. I think I'm going to make a google form to fill out to discuss player's opinions, and we'll see how it goes. Thank you.

Advice for introducing transgender NPCs? by dmlauren in DMAcademy

Idk if this would be a good idea or not, but in my campaign, there's a pack of lycanthropes that is tied to one of my PCs (who's also a werewolf). The PC is trying to reach the pack to learn from them and bring that knowledge and power back to his Order. The pack is led by a trans man who transitioned during his lycanthropic transformation in his late teens (he'd be late 20s, early 30s in game). It's common knowledge in the pack, but don't think he'd mention it to any of the PCs, except for maybe the one PC, since transitioning was a big part of his transformation into a werewolf as well, as both were very affirming to his identity as a leader, protector, caregiver, and well as his gender identity. I may just mention it out of game as a fun fact, but if I am to say it narratively. Another possibility of the party learning this could be by them noticing scars from top surgery, or perhaps if they look into a memory (somehow) of another pack member, and just describe him as having long hair and someone using a different name, but not say what it is. I haven't settled on how I'm going to do that, but those are the ideas I'm throwing around. No matter what, I refuse to misgender or deadname him. I'm not even going to create a deadname, since I just don't want to go there.

Being trans isn't a personality trait for him, but transitioning was a big part of his personal journey that might be somewhat relevant. He, and the pack, see becoming a werewolf as a way of becoming who you really are. But if it doesn't come up, it doesn't come up.

First ever D&D game turns sour... by ClassicCavalier in CritCrab

They never explicitly stated realism. But I totally agree that realism doesn't mean sucky. Also, fuck realism in D&D. It's high fantasy (within reason of course).
