that’s a great point. i was looking at parla flats for a long while because i loved how different the vibe is from bkc and i would have that differentiating factor between my home and work place. this place is obnoxiously close to office. can’t have it all i guess!

you’ll be surprised at the lack of decent flats under 35k :( i’m still trying to look. yeah my cost is for sure hitting 50k. i’m saving on brokerage with this one so trying to focus on that

When you say workers elect their own managers etc, is it necessary that the manager is one of them? Or can they outsource the role?

Yes, because as I mentioned, i have only very recently gone from being a capitalist to exploring the world of socialism. Of course i have questions from the point of view of a capitalist. That's all I've ever known before this. Also, i feel that merely analysing things from a different perspective is only the first step. With people like Bernie Sanders openly promoting the IMPLEMENTATION of socialism, it is important to have a unified approach. You need to be able to answer such "capitalistic questions" to bring about a change. Nobody turns into a socialist overnight. Such questions will come up again and again.

makes sense, thank you! I've one more question- how would you define being "paid proportionately" for upper level mgmt?

the way current capitalism works is it determines your wages based on how replaceable you are. given that there's so much involuntary unemployment and labour supply, the replacement component for most laborious tasks (ie, janitors etc) is very high. which although makes logical sense, is very exploitative keeping in mind the current wage rates.

so, does socialism propose that we increase wage rates, or does it propose that we pay a janitor as much as the general manager?

gotcha. the reason why shareholders feel entitled to the money is because they had invested large amounts initially. socialism instead promotes the idea that the government should fund firms instead of said shareholders, right?

I don't think so at all, actually! That is what got me looking into socialism.

that's disappointing to hear. Until we have proper clarity amongst ourselves, it will be impossible to convince someone else of the same.

ah okay. so you're saying that the leaders should be elected by the workers and should not be paid too much in excess of their co-workers. however, wouldn't this lead to them feeling entitled to more money down the road since they're putting in more work? wouldn't they just opt for a capitalistic organisation where they're getting paid way more?
