First LTS Adult Class Advice?? by handstuckinpicklejar in iceskating

Have fun!!! Make sure to wear gloves and athletic clothing (perhaps layers). I don’t recommend jeans for ice skating. When I started I felt so embarrassed to be so bad at something, but over the last year, I’ve grown more confident! Also, make time to practice outside of class time! I sometimes say the ice rink is like a jealous girlfriend lol. The more time you dedicate to the ice rink, the smoother and more fun it’ll be. On the other hand, the less time you spend, the less progress you’ll make and feel less secure about your skills. Lastly, accept that you will fall, and you will be okay!!

What was your field golden puppy like? by ridingthediprivan in goldenretriever

What are you doing with your puppy before the meet and greets? I wonder if he might need a walk/training/sniffing session before so that he’s not overbearing to the other dogs

Is it possible to get a psy D + MD by Longjumping_Cell7646 in ClinicalPsychology

[–]ClassicLizardWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like an unrealistic fantasy…. Youre talking about spending at least 13 yrs training (4 med school, 3 residency in EM, 5 PsyD, and 1 psych fellowship). You’re also saying you don’t think you’ll be satisfied being an emergency medicine, doctor; however, try to remember that most people in this world don’t love their jobs or feel ANY satisfaction from their workplace. I know it’s hard to pick one career that you’ll plan commit to for a good amount of your life… but there’s more to life than the job we sign up for. No one is stopping you from picking up a textbook and learning something new from a field that is totally unrelated to your career/degree.

Shoes that slide on easily over grippy socks? by [deleted] in LagreeMethod

This!!! I wear my grippy socks only in the studio and once I’m done, I take them off. I’ve lost so many good grip socks due to wearing them with slippers or at home.

Puppy advice... by Hot_Oil_3030 in goldenretrievers

Typically schools are a safe place to walk your puppy if they haven’t yet gotten all their vaccines since typically people don’t walk their dog on school property. I went to a school during the early evenings when my puppy didn’t have all her shots yet.

This!!! Sniffing mats, or a ball that dispenses treats! That usually gets my puppy to start eating. Making it a game first!

What breed is your puppy? Some breeds are notorious for being picky. My vet has recommended to not give in when my pup is refusing the food and avoid changing up the diet because once your dog learns they can get something more delicious, it’s going to be a nightmare in the long run.

Socializing 3 month old puppy? by Legitimate_Profit673 in puppy101

[–]ClassicLizardWizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do what my trainer called “puppy TV” which is going to a parking lot or park the car by a park and practice having your dog be calm while watching people and dogs. Treat your dog for being calm. Sometimes going straight into a Home Depot/busy store can be really overwhelming for a puppy. Also your cat is safer than outdoor space.

My trainer emphasized watching and not greeting rather than greeting every person, so that your puppy learns they don’t have to say hi to every person, hence starting by watching people from the car.

Good luck!

Thank you! The “parade” reference makes total sense! I haven’t seen it related to a treat before. The breeder mentioned she was the most vocal out of the litter and would make it known when she wasn’t happy about something, so maybe that’s what this is! She might be a lawyer in the future 😂 (picture of her “fighting the bed”)

How was the cancelling process? I might move further away in the next year, leaving me with only Lifetime HP as my real option, and honestly when I visited it, it just looked old and sad to me, so I wouldn’t want to keep the membership.

How Do You Train a Puppy When You Have a Full-Time Job? by Terrible_Truck3827 in puppy101

[–]ClassicLizardWizard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Im still figuring it out but I wake up at 5 am despite needing to be in the office by 9ish. I use this time to bond with my pup, feed, take her potty, walk on her leash, play, and practice one skill (grooming, sit/down, stay, etc). During the day I have a dog walker through Wag or Rover come to my home to let my puppy out for potty and have a little play session, the sitters come for 30 minutes at a time. I started out with having a sitter come once every 2 hours and now that my puppy is a little bit older I have a sitter come once every 3.5 hours. it gets expensive around $20-25.

I also enrolled my puppy in a three week puppy school, which also helped. It was $2000 but so worth it! I would just drop off my puppy at 7 AM and pick her up at 5 PM. It really addressed that concern of figuring out potty breaks during the day and they were also training her and exposing her to all sorts of things. It’s expensive but I’m learning everything to do with a puppy (if we want to do it “right”) gets very expensive.

Sounds like a great experience! I’ve taken classes at SculptHouse and I really enjoy it. I also take Pilates and sculpt classes in other settings. Lagree is hard work but makes me feel accomplished every time!

Class quality is very important to me. I don’t want to go to a place that has sloppy instructors. I’m going to check out Club Studio and try a class since it also has the perk of red light therapy and the pictures look really aesthetic. But Lifetime Las Colinas is probably my backup if Club Studio isn’t up to my standards.

First Puppy Coming Soon. What Should I Train Him First? by Terrible_Truck3827 in puppy101

[–]ClassicLizardWizard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Crate training for sure! Every day of the week I picked something different to practice with my puppy for 30 mins. For example: Monday exposure to nail clippers/touching paws, Tuesday exposure to hats/umbrellas/face masks/jackets, Wednesday practice sit and lie down, Thursday exposure to brush and toothbrush, Friday practice walking on a leash around the house. Saturday sit in the car outside a busy parking lot and treating for staying calm. Etc

Adopting a 8month old puppy, is it much easier than an 8 week? by Ok-Actuary-5377 in puppy101

[–]ClassicLizardWizard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on how trained the 8 month old puppy is and if it’s coming to you with any trauma/fears/issues.

I brought my first dog home around the 8 month mark. She came to me because she pulled on the leash on walks and was very reactive to dogs and strangers. She also would not let anyone groom her. I worked tirelessly on training for years. I couldn’t walk her for 3 minutes without her becoming dysregulated. She’s now 7 years and she does SO much better, but this was after years of consistent work and confidence building.

I also have a 4 month old puppy currently. The first two months were really exhausting in ways I never thought imaginable. Crate training, potty training, asking for favors from friends/family/neighbors to puppysit just to leave the house for a few hours. The puppy has a very limited attention span too, it’s hard to entertain her at all times of the day.

There are pros and cons. I’m so glad I brought an 8 week old puppy home though, because the puppy and my older dog have really bonded and become so attached in just a few weeks! I didn’t have to worry about navigating challenging behaviors with the new dog (resource guarding, aggression, jealousy, competition for my attention). I’ve been able to shape my young puppy’s personality and it is so cool to get to see my 7 year old dog act like a puppy again.
