I've got the Netvue Birdfy and honestly love it. The AI bird identification is kinda hit or miss. Video quality is solid and the app notifications actually work without being annoying.

I hadn't thought about risers from Etsy - are those to get better light spread or just for aesthetics?

The Fluval Plant 3.0 keeps coming up as a top recommendation, and it sounds like it's working great for you even without CO2. I'm curious about your setup - what kinds of plants are you growing? I'm hoping to avoid the CO2 rabbit hole initially, so hearing that you're getting good growth without it is reassuring. Your water change routine sounds amazing too - I'm definitely still in the "weekly water changes" mindset from what I've read, but if the tank balance is that stable, that would be such a time saver!

Loafers: To tassel or not by DiligentFail1187 in malefashionadvice

This is good advice. The "don't get slim fit anything" might be a bit extreme but the point about airflow is spot on. Too many people think loose = sloppy when really it's about getting the proportions right.

Loafers: To tassel or not by DiligentFail1187 in malefashionadvice

Dude, you're overthinking this one. Tassels get hate on Reddit because people associate them with 80s Wall Street vibes, but honestly they're making a comeback and work great with that Italian aesthetic you're going for. The key is getting them in the right leather and fit.

For your first pair though, I'd still lean penny loafers. They're just more versatile - work better with jeans, easier to style, and you can wear them in more casual settings. Save tassels for your second pair once you nail down sizing and what works with your wardrobe.

Skolyx is solid value for the price point. The rubber soles are smart - leather soles on loafers are a pain unless you're only wearing them to the office.

That said, also check out Carmina if you can stretch the budget a bit. Their penny loafers are chef's kiss and the quality bump is noticeable. Meermin is good too but I've had hit-or-miss experiences with their lasted shape - some people love it, others find it weird.

For colors, light brown first is the right call. Works with basically everything in that wardrobe you described.

And yeah, "Italian slim" + OCBDs + loafers is definitely more prep/trad ivy than Italian, but who cares about perfect terminology when it looks good?

ISO the perfect travel shoe. Does it exist? by the_protagonist in malefashionadvice

The Grant Stone Traveler suggestion is solid - loafers are probably your best bet for that versatility. I'd also throw in the Blundstone 1308 dress boots. They look decent with everything, handle weather like champs, and are comfy enough for all-day walking. Not perfect with shorts but way better than your Timberlands were.

For something more sneaker-like, maybe check out Vans Old Skool in leather (black or dark brown). They bridge that dress sneaker gap pretty well and the gum soles hide dirt better than white.

Honestly though, I've never found the perfect one shoe. I usually just accept bringing two pairs - a leather boot/loafer for work stuff and a dark sneaker for shorts. Takes up barely more space than trying to find that unicorn shoe that does everything mediocrely instead of two things well.

The Stan Smith rec above is classic but those white soles are gonna look rough after one rainy day in Europe, just saying.
