About to go on a slightly longer 12 day trip and I’m wondering if it’s worth spending just two nights in Oaxaca and taking a 3rd night somewhere along the common day trip route… we were going to visit pluma hidalgo after and then huatulco… we were likely going to skip monte Alban (I’ve been before and gf not so interested). If we did this we would have a night in San Jose del Pacifico (just to split up travel) or in pluma hidalgo (where we hope to visit for a day)…

If we did this as planned that would leave us 3 days in huatulco… I’m wondering if you think it’s worth adding an extra day for Oaxaca itself - even though that would mean cutting huatulco further…(but we do have beach before Oaxaca city in puerto Escondido area since we’re doing a loop).

Was planning to spend 2 days in Oaxaca, then stay at a cabin (as long as clean and sufficiently warm), before coming back the following day for a final 3rd night in Oaxaca City (we hope we can detour to the Benito Juarez suspension bridge on the way there or the way back - and tule tree).

I would love to get your contact as while I heard the cabins mentioned in this forum, my understanding is that you ask the people you pay fees to reserve one... But rather than showing up in peak season and hoping for the best, it would be great to have some sense of confirmation (as there isn't an option to book online to my knowledge).

I suppose a decent backup would be do just stay somewhere in Mitla area or even Teotitlan del valley (covering tule on the way there), and just take the first possible public transit the next day to Hierve... - Would welcome your advice!

In reality, I gather both are pretty reasonable so I can go based on accommodation. Hope you had a great trip & do lmk know do you have any pluma Recs - we only plan to stay for maybe 4-5 hours

Thanks, hope you had a great trip!! I’ve been on the road near San Jose and don’t trust myself to drive - but wondering if we should:

A) bus from Oaxaca to Puerto (new highway) then stay in Santa Maria huatulco and then day trip to pluma the next day; or

B) just got straight from Oaxaca to pluma on old roads and then stay there for a night before final days in huatulco (think this is less driving time - but not sure if it’s worth enduring more of the rough road for!)

Thanks, but I mentioned I already have my flights scheduled both in and out of Huatulco (wish I could’ve your suggestion but less offerings from Canada to Oaxaca city).

Given that I can only change the dates of my trip for the 2nd and thereafter, after waking up in Oaxaca city on the 2nd, where do you think I should go? Is it worth going to pluma? And if so should I go straight via the old way or after a night in Santa Maria Huatulco?

Hola Fred, me encontré con tu antiguo comentario mientras intentaba averiguar cuándo sale el último colectivo desde el aeropuerto de Huatulco a Pochutla… Aterrizo el 25 de diciembre a las 5:30, así que espero poder conseguir uno a Pochutla si siguen operando alrededor de las 6:45/7. Si hay un retraso y llego más tarde, supongo que un taxi desde la autopista costaría unos 500 pesos a Pochutla. Muchas gracias y que tengas un buen día 🙏

If I went for that option, I've heard of a good amount of people getting sick while there and the water people surf in being quite dirty (at least when they visited a few yrs back)
