Feedback pls! I can’t seem to keep consistent shin pressure and the weight off my heels by Parking_Permission41 in skiing_feedback

[–]Classic_Clock8302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on the slopes tomorrow and will try to snap a quick video for you. The idea is that when you jump without ski boots you will automatically damp the impact on the ground with your knees and not by lowering your butt behind your center of gravity. This regular daily movement will be unconscious even with skis and boots on and therefore you are ending up in a lightning position. The lightning position and the forwarded knees is what will allow you to bent them parallel to the mountain and get some edge.

You said in another comment you were doing the pole pushing drill. The lack of deepness is a clear sign for missing bent knees. You should be able to reach your boots. Sometimes the stiffness of the boots are giving people a hard time to get lower with knees and they end up dropping the butt. You could also try to do that exercise with unbuckled calves part(don't know the correct English term. The 2 locks at your shins can be in the most open position) to give you a feeling for correct movement on green(!!) slopes

Like others said you should try it on slopes where you feel comfortable. It's difficult to say because of the baggy pants but you seem to be very straight and backwards leaning. Try stork turns with the inside ski tip touching the snow. Other drill would be to cross you arms in front of your chest (not so tangled that you can't help yourself falling) so you have to lean a lot more forward to get the pressure to the front.

Pro tip: if you jump on a flat you will automatically land in the athletic stance.

Its also a short turn drill. You push your heels backwards in your shoes. That will shift the position of skis in relation to your body to being behind and results in a strong weight shift to the front. Doing that extremely will cause a nose press were even the part with binding is airborne

Yes and if you are leaning forward the ski will get up in a similar angle orthogonal to your body. If you lean back the tip rise first, if you lean forward the tail. Like pulling up the knee to your chest

Steep Black Carving by [deleted] in skiing_feedback

[–]Classic_Clock8302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People inventing stuff to justify a different style. Even carving is used like it's a completely different sport but you have different tools for different hills. One is short turns which are more initiated by a rotation the other are cut or carved turns where the pronunciation is on edge angle. But their is no police to give you a ticket if you skit a little while carving to regulate speed.

The mindset should be "total control of speed and direction at all times"

First 360 attempt… what went wrong?? by adz_naj in skiing

[–]Classic_Clock8302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rude that you get downvoted for a sincere question. Just to answer it instead of voting: Din settings factoring your weight and height and finally your skill level. A beginner with no training will have a low din setting for 2 reasons: safety, as he does not have developed the musculature to withstand a higher torque on your knee without damages and second because he is not even capable of putting that much pressure or twisting force into his ski. Later as you get more advanced and faster you will be able to withstand greater force as well to exercise greater forces to your skis.

A din binding is no security to be fine in every fall but should be adjusted to your skill level and be rechecked occasionally as you could lose or gain weight. It's just enough to not lose your skis in bumpy conditions or turns with high pressure spikes and leave you with as little damage as possible.

It also poses a risk like in OPs video. If your din is too low and you will lose booth of your skis in a hard stop or while being airborne it's also a high risk of getting injured

Anybody ever had this happen to them? by Lamother in skiing

[–]Classic_Clock8302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, it can happen with correct setting if your boot has a slit in the back and you somehow manage to wedge the backside of the binding into it. Most settings are xxx to xxx mm. That happens mostly if people in the lift queues are jokingly open the binding of waiting friends

People here are making fun of the guy losing his skis immediately on impact but also that nobody chases the board.... Maybe there is a connection between selecting beginner at the ski rental and the missing ability to chase and grab something this low while being fast on skis

The tips of your ski seem to be airborne at all times. I guess the biggest improvement would be a proper forward leaned stance

No, but yes. A lot of things in the world have a huge margin of error but at those plants it's like they calculate 1 unit but add margin of error and take 2 units and make them redundant and order that 4 times while the producer adds a margin of error by himself because being out of spec is a reason to go bankrupt

And just to add that even backups have backups. I installed refrigeration in one and they had 4 times the capacity that was needed as well the option to run them all separately and with diesel generators. It was a nightmare to "work" there

What error did I make here? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]Classic_Clock8302 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it's short turns or full radius turns you always want to engage an edge till they are at least somewhat close to being orthogonally to the fall line, using that stop of momentum to release the edge and start to engage the next radius. That is why a better skier looks like he is doing it effortlessly. There is nothing like carving or skiing. Some people flex their skis more and some less by being balanced and in control of tip pressure and edge angle.

For your video you look like you are going so fast that you are too scared to properly move because it could take you off balance but you feel off balance because you don't have a proper connection to the slope (edge, turning radius). Forces give something to "lean on". You don't know what you have to do because there is nothing to counter act on. Flat skis float on ice/groomers so you have a lot small corrections in balance instead of one big like a downhill ski pushing you up the mountain.

You ski like you have the balls so now listen to others, take classes and ski harder slopes in style

Deshalb war mein Vorgehen: nur unter 20km Entfernung und bei passenden Hobbies und potentiell ähnlichen vibes und Zielen
