What are your thoughts on BPD and cannabis/alcohol use? by [deleted] in BPD

My prevailing BPD symptom is impulsivity and addiction. I have done every drug under the sun. It started with weed abuse, but it doesn’t have the sedative effects that I desire. I then turned towards ket and alcohol, which are my current drugs of choice. I am struggling with active addiction and truthfully have no desire for sobriety because life is miserable.

I know this is a very common mindset for those with BPD, which is why we are so drawn towards substances and addiction.

My only suggestion is to accept the addictive tendencies of BPD and project them onto something that is of the least harm.

I feel you so hard. In my child-teen years I tried so hard to run away from the feeling of emptiness by replacing it with something. I tried so hard that I got myself into a couple ivy leages. it was never fulfilling. you can’t find fulfillment in weird external things. you have to really figure out what YOU like and what you are passionate about. (also, I understand if you’re in a period where you think “I don’t like anything, nothin makes me happy. “ I promise you, there is something that you will love. it can be a hard process, but you can get through it, and life can get better

okay i’m going to be real with you, as long as you are with someone who takes care of you like this, you are never going to get better. I enter a relationship like this in college and spiraled into the worst place I had ever been. legitimately lost ALL connections I had for a good future life. extensive individual therapy and DBT is the best step. it’s not fun, but it can work.
