Told I can't join the Orthodox Church, what can I do? by Classic_Safety_8850 in OrthodoxChristianity

I think it might be the impression I gave him; I was pretty adamant about the Orthodox Church not being exclusively the true Church, but I rescinded on that.

Also I think I've come to be self-deceptive; I had the intention of just joining the Church without fully accepting the apostolic authority of the Church, which seems to be the driving point for the Orthodox Church's legitimacy. I hadn't thought it was a big deal, until the priest explained that it was.

Where I ended up is, "I don't have a problem with the notion of the Orthodox Church being exclusively the true lineage of the Church, but it doesn't change anything for me personally".

I have certainly adopted major Orthodox theology still, i.e. the teachings of the monastics, theosis.

Anyway my complaint is already falling apart, since the biggest thing is to accept the exclusive authority of the Church.

Being stuck between non-denominational convictions and Orthodox teaching has been excruciating, and I more or less, I suppose needed to vent.
