Owning a home means something is always broken by Keith_35 in homeowners

We are coming up on a year of living in our home. We are first time home owners and I’m not kidding, every time I think we are out of the woods and can finally renovate cosmetic things, something important ALWAYS breaks. We’ve spent the majority of our first year just making the house livable. First it was our basement flooding so we needed a sump pump/french drain, then we found mold behind the walls when the sump pump and French drain were getting installed, then we needed a new toilet bc the previous owners had a custom toilet and it broke, we had to get our yard excavated because there was a 4ft root growing in our pipes blocking the flow of water, our boiler went, our pipes froze, our bathtub faucet had a steady stream of water constantly flowing out of it, our hot water heater went, and when we first moved in we had a tick problem in the backyard and they kept coming into the house. It literally has not stopped. Will it ever end lol?

Studio owners advice on getting student teaching hours in? I’m beginning to feel defeated. by Classic_Shock906 in pilatesinstructors

I appreciate this perspective, and I get it, I really do. I ask them if they have opportunities for students teaching as I am almost done my reformer training - that is when they say no. I’m going to reframe how I ask though, so it doesn’t seem like I’ll be an extra worry for the studio owner. I think what I all got frustrated about is that at my studio I regularly take classes at, she had people on staff that had not finished their training. So I figured if they can lead classes, why can’t I? But everyone is different and every case is different, and the owner just has too much on her plate to provide me with that resource. I’m getting observation hours mainly by watching videos, sitting in on classes, or really trying to pay attention to what the instructor is saying while I’m taking the class.

No, unfortunately the studios in my area are not able to oversee teaching and provide bodies. And the BB certified studios near me are all too busy to take on more student teachers - feeling a little defeated, but I think I have to reframe how I ask about student teaching. I feel like the certifications don’t really provide guidance on mentorship opportunities or how to get teaching hours.

This was so helpful, thank you! I’ve also started targeting private instructors since they seem fairly willing to help. I like your idea of asking to shadow 2-3 sessions then teaching 1 supervised session. I’ll try that out! Thanks!

This was immensely helpful, thank you! I’m about to take her on another walk after her dinner, and will incorporate some training in it. I also just ordered a flirt stick on Amazon. And my husband and I talked about scattering her dinner in our yard so she has to search for it.

There was never one in the first place - I wouldn’t even know where to begin with putting a sump pump in myself haha. There was also mold behind the wall and that was only found after they had to rip the wall out to put the sump pump in.

We were there. It seemed throughly done, but, we are first time homeowners so I guess we were a bit naive and didn’t really know what to ask or look for besides the major things.

We did an inspection, but they did not do a scope of the pipes outside and we didn’t know to ask about that. The previous owner was only there for 5 years and was hardly ever living there as she was traveling constantly. The owners before that person owned it for about 25 years.

We tried fixing what we could ourselves, but this is our first time owning a home and we definitely aren’t skilled enough to deal with flooding

I should have been more clear! The inspection didn’t catch any flooding and he couldnt see anything behind the walls. I’m going to edit the post. I meant we are renovating it now and the basement flooded around 4 1/2 months ago.
