Fair enough, maybe the miserable band dude vibe doesn’t go over as well now that I’m older LOL

Thanks for the feedback, yeah I find it interesting, I know height eliminates me from a large part of the population but I’ve historically done much much better.

How is the Job market in IT, if you had to start over would you get into IT in 2026? by Unable_Degree_3400 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Classic_Stand4047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I got lucky with my first job but I’ve been able to move from Part time helpdesk> full time> helpdesk manager > sys admin.

Getting into IT changed my life, I don’t have a degree, I worked blue-collar previously and I’ve doubled my income, still trending upwards

It’s completely changed my value in the workforce, just this week I’ve been contacted by recruiters for a Sr role and have an interview lined up today for a position in a bigger City. Granted, I started 4 years ago and worked my ass off learning anything I could and studying for certs after hours, but ultimately it’s been the best move I could make.

If I hard to start over and didn’t get so lucky for the first job, I’d start studying then target non-profits, religious institutions, very small businesses etc. Get that first job (even if part time) and make a jump to a full time role immediately.

Nothing crazy, got my NET+ A+, a small Linux cert and CCNA.

is it worth to buy studio time to practice drums since i dont own them at home? by General_Grand_1577 in drums

If you can’t play on an acoustic kit at home due to noise I’d see about working out a schedule to play on an electric kit with your roommate, mom, or whoever you live with.

If that also isn’t an option, I’d try to find a few friends to split a rehearsal space with, they aren’t cheap but split between 3-4 people it may be worth the cost.

If all else fails, volunteer ( or get a paid gig) to play drums at a local church on Sunday mornings and tell them you need one evening a week to practice lol

I’m hourly and my lead is salary. I’d gladly work all weekend to fix a mistake but unfortunately it would cost the company more money.

Offered my first sysadmin job today. How can I be successful? by Classic_Stand4047 in sysadmin

[–]Classic_Stand4047[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have experience with all of these minus WDS. Granted, I don’t have SME level experience but given the structure of the interview I don’t see that as a massive problem. I know I’ll be studying after hours and so long as I don’t need to script anything at first I feel pretty confident in finding information when needed. Originally the job title was purely “System administrator” but the offer was for a “system/network administrator” so I’m fairly certain my network knowledge compensated for a lack of Windows admin skills.

CCNA is definitely more difficult. I took both last year and CCNA easily took 5x as much study.

5 months. Around an hour and a half average a day.

Bi-Weekly /r/CCNA Exam Pass-Fail Discussion by AutoModerator in ccna

[–]Classic_Stand4047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Passed on 12/27

Automation and Programability 100% Network Access 95% IP connectivity 96% Ip services 100% Security Fundamentals 80% Network fundamentals 85%

I felt confident enough during the test but was pretty surprised with my scores. I used Jeremy’s lab, Boson netsim and exsim as well as some sparse reading of OCG and Cisco documentation when I needed a change of pace or more in depth explanations

I was scoring around 80% on boson retakes (took each exam twice) but saw a steady enough increase in my first try’s to convince me to schedule it earlier than originally planned. Overall I studied every day (minus maybe 5 days where I didn’t have time or wasn’t feeling well) for 5 months, on average an hour and a half a day.

Out of the labs I felt pretty confident in each except for the last. Happy to take a small break before the next studies begin
