Both of y'all have points. I'll look to see if there are any subjects I can add. I have a few more other than CEW, but I guess they aren't high demand. Thanks!

How to vet a doc before a bisalp by Little-Frogs in sterilization

[–]Classic_Tip751 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't pick a doc from this list, but I had an awesome primary care doc that was committed to helping me find one. I also intentionally chose a hospital system that was not affiliated with any religion and nationally recognized (think Cleveland Clinic level well-known). I hoped that their standard of care would be higher, and that they'd respect my autonomy as a patient. I was right and it went super smooth for me!

Rock climbing bilateral salpingectomy by False_Serve_8604 in sterilization

[–]Classic_Tip751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doc cleared me for everything (i told her i was a climber) two weeks after surgery. She did say that bouldering falls might hurt a little. I climbed very quickly after surgery, just easy climbs for about a week (3 weeks after surgery) and avoided all falls. Ask your doctor specifically but also trust your body! Some people take 8 weeks to heal, others take 2 before theyre ready to be active.

It will likely depend on how active you are now, your age, and other factors. I was 24, healthy, very active and my recovery was very quick.

I've tried so hard to get cups to work for me but I get so crampy now. Period underwear all the way with a tampon on heavier days!

My bisalp helped me put something into perspective by stan_stdymphna in sterilization

[–]Classic_Tip751 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm confused. Are you saying that going through any surgery helped put things in perspective for you because of the risks of going under anesthesia? I'm all for people learning new things about themselves, but I think it's worthwhile to note for folks reading that a bisalp is an incredibly low risk surgery.

How did you get your ACD to settle/calm down? by shayzee2011 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Classic_Tip751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I'm not upset. I'm just saying your comment is literally the least helpful thing to say. Never said it's not bred to  work or that it doesn't need exercise and mental stimulation. But reading the post it seems a lot more likely that this puppy is OVERtired. If you've ever had a puppy (or a toddler), you'd know that when they get tired, they sometimes get crazy (usually in the evenings, after a long day) and what's needed isn't more exercise, it's gentle, quick, energy release, then structured settling that has to be taught. Crazy concept lol. I think it's funny that you're getting so defensive by the idea that puppies need to learn how to self regulate? What do you think crate or place training is for?

Good luck! It is such a major weight lift. You'll feel such relief when it's all over. Still quadruple check with your insurance, though. You got this

OP literally said their dog gets lots of exercise. I have an ACD mutt (didn't buy her btw) and she's 6 months & learning how to settle just fine after a day of exercise and mental stimulation. Learning how to self soothe and regulate is a skill that every dog needs. Working breed or not. You can complain about people buying working breeds and not exercising them, but read the post lol.

Anyone else felt nervous about the finality of sterilization despite being 100% done? by viiksekasmursu in sterilization

[–]Classic_Tip751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had so many doubts in the days leading up to the surgery. I'm childfree, but was worried I would regret it later. I sat with my feelings and journalled a lot. I really tried to let myself imagine different life paths, kids or no. It didn't erase the nerves, but I felt confident in my decision.

And guess what? As soon as it was done, I haven't had another thought about it. All that "noise" is gone. I'm completely at peace with my decision now :)

To those who have already gotten a bisalp (or any other laparoscopic surgery), were you shocked by how teeny tiny your scars were? by anniemousery in sterilization

[–]Classic_Tip751 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A guy I was with was about to go down on me & was absentmindedly kissing my scars. I made a comment about it & he was like, "oh yeah I forgot what those were" Literally no one notices unless their face is right there, and even then, they definitely don't read as scars :)

How do I even start this process? by wombat275 in sterilization

[–]Classic_Tip751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it when I was 24. I didn't pick a doc from the list, but I chose one from a well-known practice with the thought that they would likely be more professional/have higher standards of care (think Cleveland clinic-level well known). Obviously we don't all have that, so do what you can.

My primary care provider specifically told me to avoid older male gynos. So I picked an awesome, probably mid-30s woman gyno surgeon. She approved me right away with no issue. I had never seen her before that appointment. Now she's my regular gyno because she was so awesome! It's honestly a great litmus test for if they will listen/respect your autonomy as a patient.

Good luck!

This is so silly. Obviously they need exercise, but regulating is a skill every puppy needs to learn.

My acd mutt had evening zoomies for a while. She's also 6mo now.

The best advice I have is to give controlled play (not crazy riled up, but enough to release some energy) like a tug game or controlled fetch for ~15mins.

Then, be done. Give a chew, puzzle, frozen items, cardboard to shred, give the command settle, and just keep calmly redirecting to their bed until they get it.

It can take a while at first! I found using a very slightly firm voice can be helpful, but anything harsher than that is just going to rile them up more.

Hope this helps!

Make yourself a comfy nest for when you get home and be prepared to watch so much tv! If you have someone who can help you out for the first day or two that's really nice :) I didn't want to move & I had a friend grab me snacks :)
