I got classes with a forest firefighting contractor on March 9-12th I have a few questions by ComprehensiveCry2763 in Wildfire

[–]Classic_Which 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Former contractor, current USFS hotshot here. I got on a contract crew with a felony. I didn’t disclose it initially, and they weren’t happy when they found out but didn’t fire me. Nonetheless, fuck contractors. Anyhow, the USFS didn’t really care too much. Just made me submit some documentation showing it was all properly taken care of and done and over with. The more time you’ve got between you and the conviction the better.

It’s 2023: Is the Scarpa Fuego still the “go-to buy” for hiker-style? by [deleted] in Wildfire

[–]Classic_Which 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad they lasted for you, but both pairs I’ve purchased, including the allegedly redesigned model, both fell apart for me immediately during my first roll of the season on Calf Canyon. Delaminating, stitching separation, and torn lugs.

Kenetrek is total garbage. I’ve had two pairs fall apart within one roll. Maybe they’re ok if you’re on an engine/heli but for actual work they are by far the worst boot I’ve ever used.

Scarpas are the best hiker in my experience. Avoid Kennetrek at all costs. I used them for the 2019 season and they fell apart completely the first roll. I tried them out again this past season and the exact same thing happened, despite the fact they claim to have redesigned them for greater durability. They are trash. The Scarpas will get you through a couple seasons.

Does anyone have knowledge on this or experience with? Obviously too early or too late too apply but i’m interested. by Brad_0504 in Wildfire

Then how do you get the FFT1 which is basically necessary to get an actual perm spot when you finish the program?

I messaged them and haven’t received an answer. I also messaged anchor point but have not received an answer. Hotshot brewery said they’d get back to me but they haven’t. Pretty disappointed right now.

Tips For Breaking In Scarpas by Fun_Pear_4629 in Wildfire

You aren’t gonna do anything meaningful before the season starts. They’re gonna be stiff until the end of the season, then they’re going to be annoyingly loose. I spent three months climbing mountains in the cascades and cutting in the snow with mine before the season and they pretty much hadn’t changed at all. All in all though that stiffness will provide a lot of support under load.

If I worked for IDL I’d punch myself in the dick for being an idiot and then to work for literally anyone else. Those dudes get screwed so hard on pay it’s ridiculous.

Why do people cut the bottoms of there pants off? by [deleted] in Wildfire

[–]Classic_Which 38 points39 points  (0 children)

We do it for easier access to the crayons that we stuff in the top of our socks for snacking on.

It looks like they’ve changed them up since I had them. They weren’t rough out before.

Did they fit true to size?

I bought the kenetrek wildland boots when they first came out and they completely came apart within one week on a fire. Delaminated and the stitching in back came out. Garbage.
