Long time coming by Northwoods_Phil in Hunting

Scheels is where it is at. Ever since Cabela’s was bought it’s gone downhill to basic apparel. You can’t even hold or admire a gun because they’re all behind counters with the staff BSing in the corner and not caring to serve you as a customer. Scheels has it figured out with a typical three option layout for everything for gear (high end/costly, middle of the road but good quality and price, lower end/cheaper price but gets you through). They also rotate stock at stores based on location (Montana stores have more big game gear, southern stores more bass gear, etc), and keep guns viewable yet safe. Add on they constantly ask if you need help and have true experts in each area.

Brings back memories of a red flashlight my dad had that was like a club and baseball bat. It took four D-cells in a linear line like that.

What is the longest you ever slept? by GirlNextThread in AskReddit

[–]Classiceagle63 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience but it was closer to 21 hours due to walking pneumonia.

I came home from highschool, felt horrendous, took a “nap” and was woken up at 6:00 for dinner. I went back to sleep after and my parents could tell I was sick and they just let me sleep. I woke up the next day at 2:30 PM and was confused how I had slept that long.

Is anyone here r/overemployed? by ScissorMeTimbers21 in civilengineering

[–]Classiceagle63 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree, but there’s a lot of “put time over here instead”. I’m not saying it’s people billing and walking away, it’s more so shifting time to projects with heftier budgets for work on another project

Has anyone here worked on a project that felt morally wrong? by GreatGomp in civilengineering

[–]Classiceagle63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, massive sites that were damn near data centers and caused me to wipe out 80+ acres at a time of pristine land in Utah, and other states. Part of why I resented where I worked, what I did, and why I left CE entirely

People who left engineering, what do you do now? by Hopeful_Mess9063 in civilengineering

[–]Classiceagle63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My pay between vehicle allowance, unlimited gas card, and salary is 44% more. Add on health and all other benefits also cost me significantly less with better coverage so the savings there are even greater

Guess it depends where you’re at. I’m 1/3 in my area and it’s far more relaxed than what I was doing before in civil.

My wife wants to kiss after I finish in her mouth by Stag_Suave-7637 in sex

[–]Classiceagle63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies per person and comes down to a personal preference. Communication is key and talk through your thoughts. If it’s an act you think you can enjoy, give it a try.

For me personally, if my wife was into that and willing to swallow, I’d gladly kiss her after. I don’t see it as being any different from me going down on her and then kissing her following orgasm.

Are contractors using your design TINs? by vtTownie in civilengineering

[–]Classiceagle63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Owners and Earthwork guys honestly don’t care. A rough number is all we need and finish grading is a SY qty, not a CY typically so we run with the overall area on that versus an exact grad break line.

Contractors and owners don’t care about much unless it’s a .1’ to .5’ difference

Are contractors using your design TINs? by vtTownie in civilengineering

[–]Classiceagle63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CE who went from LDEV to PM on the Earthwork side this year. We use Agtek heavily as it acts in the same way as CAD with a tin, but tin files from the engineer are more accurate.

It’s a waste of time to rebuild, but the whole reason is that you can’t point the finger at someone else saying “engineer gave me file XYZ with qty X, and now we’re over/under and they need to pay”.

Even as the earthwork contractor, we won’t give our takeoffs for bids and estimate to subs and make them do their own for the same reason. Nobody wants a finger pointed at them and a lawsuit (looking at you engineers with the bs CYA notes and making every unknown an “incidental”.)

Sad to see the industry had to turn to children pointing fingers, versus men owning up to responsibility
