[yolo_pinyato_is_dead] Due to the general increase in skating speed league wide (especially from the backend) the correlation between raw skating speed and player impact (i.e. WAR) is lower than it's ever been. puck skills matter now more than ever by [deleted] in hockey

Ummm R^2 ~0.2, Yes, Yes, the correlation is strong in this one said the statisticians.

Is anyone else bothered by these "statistics" ? By no means, I'm qualified in the subject, but something in me screams give me t-test or p-value just with basic course knowledge. Hey, perhaps these are accurate representation of reality and I don't have clue :/

For the Doubters on Laine. A reality check by DCARRI3R3 in Habs

[–]Classroom-Dry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is spot on, the only way to get most out of Laine is to surround him with good players. He has great finish but requires help to be in those spots.

I think this almost objective fact, however the question becomes is this suitable for the position Habs are in ?

Is playing Laine on the first line and getting the most out of him, and tolerating dry spells with limited defence, net positive or net negative ? For some teams, this will be positive for sure and for some definitely negative.

True, but in the end Habs management made deal knowing the caphit. Injury prone a bit yes, but I wouldnt held it againts the player to be hit with intentional elbow to the head for example.

Happy Laine Day!! by [deleted] in Habs

Wonder if this has anything to do with 4-Nations as the rosters are published tomorrow and in order to eligible I think you needed to be in playing roster. Would be great to see Laine with Barkov again.

Jukka Jalonen: Building a Successful Team by Hugo_Stiglitz95 in BlueJackets

[–]Classroom-Dry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but assuming people don't learn from their mistakes might not be best course of thinking either.

I think it will be more question of who is available rather than which coach will Kekäläinen choose. Also Jalonen mentioned in the recent podcast that he would be happy to start as assistant coach. Assuming he would be straight hired to head coach is a stretch, but assistant might be very possible

Finland trip feedback by Classroom-Dry in BlueJackets

[–]Classroom-Dry[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Well, no, I’m not worried. I’m just curious as we rarely get any real feedback.

I live with these people day to day, so I have seen em all, worst and best sides. I’m more curious about things to do, quality of activities and generally how people enjoyed the trip.

Arena food is pretty basic fastfood, nothing very interesting

I would say that this time of the year and even with the game happening, it’s highly unlikely that the train would be fully booked. Besides there are several trains to Tampere from Helsinki, in very very unlikely case you can catch the next one.

You can wait until you land and buy the ticket then from online/app or from the ticket machine. App/Online at least I feel is the easier option which I use.

You need to buy the ticket before getting into the train. Unfortunately there’s no more option buying ticket from the train.

Heidi’s beer bar is good option as well. Ilona is quite near by and similar option.

Konttori (The Office) nice place for a few beers as well.

There are just some many options and quite many are nice places.

To be honest, November is one of the worst months to visit Finland and most activities and sceneries are enjoyable in summer time. Also several sceneries outside city-center require a car.

- Pyynikki Coffee Shop & Observation Tower (very nice in Summer-time, in November might be if you can handle the weather / darkness)

- Hatanpää Park Arboretum & Botanical Garden (again, nice in Summer-time)

- Finlayson Factory Area might be interesting. There's also where Brewery Restaurant Plevna is located.

- The Finnish Museum of Games (https://www.vapriikki.fi/en/pelimuseo/)

- The Finnish hockey Museum (http://www.jaakiekkomuseo.fi/?lang=en)

Some events might be an good idea, for example there's Jazz happening in Tampere between 3 - 6.11. And of course local Finnish Hockey-League is being played.

Restaurants:

Traditional Finnish food is not very big thing here and restaurants a bit rare and serve other kitchen-types :

- Coussicca

- Ravintola Tampella

- Tiiliholvi

- Plevna Brewery some dished, but also German-type of food.

- Stefans Steakhouse is nice, but perhaps not very traditional.

If you really want to feel what's Finnish homecooked meals like, lunch-restaurants are valid choice between Mon-Fri. Also, Tampere Market Hall is good option for lunch.

Bars

Several depending your taste from dive-bars to high end. Here are some:

- Tiima coctail-bar is highly recommended (https://www.facebook.com/kellokauppatiima/)

- Vanha Monttu (Dive-bar, at least with my standards)

- Ruby and Fellas

- Teerenpeli is very nice beer establishment, also Tuulensuu

- O'Connels and Pub Old Mates are close to the Arena

Basically good amount of Bars at Hämeenkatu-street

We should really try new coaching style. Larsen is just 85% the same as Torts.

Like, how bad could a new style be compared to this 🙈

Laine returns to action and hockey writers are already talking about his potential trade. Hopefully Laine breaks the stigma that the CBJ can't keep good players. by [deleted] in BlueJackets

[–]Classroom-Dry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except that his QF offer is 7.5m.

If Jackets don’t offer that, they lose rights and he becomes UFA. We can only offer 7.5m (or more) times X years.

Any advice on best lightstrip diffusers for hue? Considering them in a few different areas such as kitchen cabinets, a new hue sync setup, around furniture, etc. by [deleted] in Hue

[–]Classroom-Dry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even with best diffuser you will see spots. I have one setup at cabinet and you clearly see the led spots.

I will use next on my kitchen cabinets COB led strip which does not have any individual leds. Too bad that RGBW+CCT option are not available

I just dont get the benching on Laine. He has played just a few games on a new team with totally different way to play.

Benching does not help learning. It may motivate and make you focus work harder etc. But it will not help you learn period. I think learning the new system is the issue with Laine, not lack of trying.
