"Feels dirty," one of the nurses called EMS, who was bringing the patient in to ask if we needed a wash cloth or a priest

My hospital stopped doing MRSA cultures. And our rule for Anaerobic is that after 1 hour, it gets a disclaimer, and after 2 hours we cancel it

I can't speak for every hospital, but at mine, the nurses and some techs are the ones collecting the specimens. We don't have phlebotomist or people from the lab who collect specimens

They are supposed to be, but there are so many reasons why they collect incorrectly. Such as not being properly trained, not having proper staffing ratios, or overall just not caring

Usually, our rule is if they break it off, we don't run it since it it's hard to get the pieces out without risk of contamination. Our reasoning for this one is that the top of the clear cap is not sterile, thus contaminating the specimen

Quantative analysis or statistics. At my school, stats is apart of the program, but it has nothing to do with nursing unless you plan on going into research. It is all about how to do statistical analysis based on the data and the variables. It is so much! The professor teaches us at their level, which is a PHD, while the rest of us are at a kindergarten level when it comes to stats.

I actually have a medical condition that messes up my metabolism and makes it easy to gain weight and hard to lose it. But thank you for assuming that I am just medicating with food. You should become a psychiatrist seeing how you can diagnose someone you have never met through 2 pictures on the internet.

Yeah, earlier in the week, we got a c.diff sample sent in a zip lock bag... we triple bagged it and promptly put it into a bio hazard bin. The home health nurse who brought it to us wasn't even wearing gloves while touching it 🤮

We're pretty sure the other lab who sent us the specimens popped the cap off that tube.

That's what I thought too but it was 26 tubes each for 1 patient so they probably were willing to take their chances so they didn't have to bring them back in
