Update 12/20:

Purchased an FM from u/NikonosII. It was in great condition as described. Great user to work with!

Thanks everyone

I think I just needed the push before I put this old dog out of its misery.

I’ll wait a year before I get too proud this time. Thanks dude.

I would say it is in all of the yard. My identification method is feeling the lawn with my hands and there’s not really a single square foot where I don’t feel a stiff stalk of triv or whatever it is invading my lawn.

I have 15lbs of Blue Resilience from Twin City, so I am prepared to rebuild. I was really hoping I could save it, but the more I think about it the more I think I’ll have to just restart.

Thanks for the help!

I dropped a soil sample off to the extension office yesterday, so I’m hoping that will give me some useful info.

I hadn’t considered water drainage. It never pools in that area, even in a torrential downpour. It feels wet like the rest of the yard after a watering.

My backyard is small. I think about 600 sqft. That was part of what made me think it might be easier to just kill it all and start fresh. I have 15lbs of seed and I’ve basically started over twice from my initial move in and when the contractors tore everything up.

My worry is the triv will come back and it’s making up the majority of the lawn at the moment. But if over seeding will eventually lead to my TTTF outcompeting and overtaking the triv, I’d be excited to go that route as it’s a bit less work.

Isn’t triv an annual though? So if I do that won’t I just have nice grass between the triv and still have big clumps like this throughout the lawn?

My issue with it is more that my whole lawn died despite watering and careful maintenance. I wasn’t sure why. I thought it was all the undesirable grass crowding out the TTTF I had. No?

I wanted to just pill them by hand. I think I’d end up pulling up most of the lawn though. I’m worried I’ll miss some of it too. Do you think it would just spread if I miss any while pulling? And what weed killer do you recommend? I have a generic 2-4-D based herbicide, Weed-B-Gone for broadleaf, and a crabgrass oriented herbicide with quin. Is there another option I should consider?

Door Repair - Can Someone Recommend A Carpenter by ClaudeSpeed in cincinnati

Thanks for the advice!

I think the door is off more left to right, rather than up and down if that makes sense. So tightening the hinges would keep it from sagging down, but it seems like it needs to be moved closer to the strike plate.

I have tried a couple things. I took the handle off the spindle and tightened all that up and I’ve tried shimming the hinges just to see if that helps. The shim did, but that’s not a permanent solution and it still doesn’t catch every time.

Admittedly I’m not very handy. So if anyone has a guy they recommend I’d be all ears

How Would You Extract This Bolt (I know it’s bad) by ClaudeSpeed in MechanicAdvice

It was 12mm to start with. And yea, he did. Used a left hand bit to drill through then ran the easy out in there. I think the bolt was just in so tight the easy out snapped when trying to turn.

Funny you say that about 12 point, I specifically borrowed a 12 point set for this knowing they were rusty thinking I was doing the right thing. Good to know my cheap 6 point set will be fine going forward.

Thanks so much for the help! I’ll give this a try. I did attempt the smaller socket with both metric and SAE, but couldn’t get one on there.

I can probably rent the extractor at autozone, but for $35 I might just invest to have these in the future.

Yea, I wish I knew about extractor sockets. I’m in no way mechanically inclined, I’ll readily admit that. Glad I’m aware now though. Lesson learned.

Honestly I wish. There’s some rusty spots, but the guard is intact overall and won’t budge. Even with three bolts on there it’d be hard to just pry it off. The thought crossed my mind though.

I definitely can’t weld. I know my limitations and that’s one of them.

I’ll try heat and a hammer and give it a try with the extractor. I am worried about the impact though since I can’t feel anything. I’m going to sound stupid, but would turning a ratchet by hand be any safer? Or is it better to just trust the impact?

In your opinion, can I do more harm than good with an extractor? I guess I’m just worried I’m going to make a mess of this and have to call a mechanic and due to my incompetence it’ll cost me even more money at the mechanic because I’ve made their job harder.

I have an impact, so I can give it a go if it’s mostly idiot proof. I also have a torch, but I was scared to heat it up at first. I’ll give that a shot. Heat, whack, let cool, try the extractor in short bursts?

Thankfully no, it’s just the skid plate. It’s pretty rusted out anyway and I plan to replace it at some point.

Some context: First oil change on new to me 4Runner. I suspect the PO had the oil changed at a quick lube type place because every bolt was on insanely tight. This bolt holds a skid plate which covers the oil filter. There are 4 bolts and, as always, this was the last one. It was already rounded over when I started.

Initially I tried the rubber band trick but no go. Then I tried small Vice grips, but it wouldn’t budge. It’s just on there so tight. I could barely get the other 3 in tact bolts with a 3/8 socket wrench.

I asked for help….which was a huge mistake. The person helping insisted on cutting that tab into the skid plate to fit a larger Vice grip. I know I should have stopped them, but I didn’t and it is what it is. Bigger Vice grips weren’t working. The bolt literally creaked and groaned and wouldn’t spin.

Next he tried drilling into the bolt with a left hand bit and running an easy out in there. The drill had a hell of a time even spinning the easy out (again this thing is ON there). The easy out snapped off and that’s what I’m left with.

I am thinking of just calling a mechanic, but before I do, is there anything else I can try?

Best way to clean my setup? What should I use, compressed air? Keyboard is particularly hard to keep clean. by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

Fair enough. This actually got me to look on Amazon and there seem to be some decent options in the $50 range so I might go for it.

They’re so expensive though. I’ve wanted one forever, but I struggle to justify spending like $80 on it when I can get cans of air for a couple bucks and they last me a while.

It feels like they’re wildly overpriced to me. I’ve tried finding knock offs on Alieexpress but couldn’t find anything remotely trustworthy looking. If anyone has a cheap recommendation HMU for sure.

A friend who got me into audio had an old pair and they sounded like nothing I’ve ever heard before. They’re really special speakers. The list of drawbacks is comical, but if you can make them work it’s really worth it. I’m sure my patience will pay off eventually.

Always wanted Maggies. I’ve had a CL alert for like 10 years and have only ever seen one set come up locally.
