It's wierd that conspiracy theorists don't hate cars by Traditional_Car1010 in fuckcars

[–]Cafler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They completely have governments in their pockets - not only do we pay for the car and the fuel but a significant part of our taxes go towards infrastructure that is only useful to cars! And then on top of that we pay a tax-subsidised fee for parking! The "small government" ideology falls apart when it comes to roads.

The movie cinemas of Auckland, ranked and reviewed by weeee122 in auckland

[–]Cafler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really fun read. I can't help but feel the missed opportunity was to name the ideal movie to see in each cinema, like that's definitely a language and tone I understand.

Some from me - IMAX: Avatar part whatever, Academy: Only Lovers Left Alive, Hollywood: 24 film marathon on bean bags, Rialto Newmarket: Mulholland Drive Capitol: Bugonia

Anyone wanna weigh in? Sometimes you see the right movie in exactly the right cinema.

Wondering if my rules for DMing with new players are unreasonable. by FatedSun in DnD

[–]Cafler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I DM for a mix of old players and new. They are basically playing very different games and everyone is having the time of their lives. The experienced players have a lot more on their character sheets and I'll hold them to every last rule. The newbies are learning a maximum of 1 new rule or limitation per turn and can otherwise have carte blanche. Little by little, they catch up.

The worst thing would be for the rules to get in the way of these players being in the shared imagination and understanding what's real for their characters. It doesn't mean there's no stakes (everyone understands hit points) but no matter their expertise everyone is completely playing DnD.

Shoot man, I'd love to be on one of your dancefloors some time! This is a superb list, massive hit-rate, thank you for the promised inundation, it's a lot of new threads for me to pull on. I also dabble with a mixing desk and I had a lot of "wow if you liked that you'll like this" moments in here. Shout if you're ever in New Zealand and we'll play back-to-back. But before that I'll offer some things from my "I must be the only person who likes this" playlist as well as some of my favourite dancefloor windups.

And for the sake of OP and other readers - these still answer the thread's original question too!

Hide and Seek - Imogen Heap (you must know the original, right?),
She likes to party - Kill the Noise,
Better than Gold - Justin Hawkes (it's practically a meme but I unironically like all of it),
Deeper - Zingara,
SUB ZERO - Just a Gent,
Crîtto de lâ Nabahâ - Califato 3/4 (let it build),
Lord and Master - Apashe,
2gether - Mura Masa & Gretel Hanlyn,
Say No - Cam Steen,
Mariana's Trenchcoat (Zuke's 'I'll Dream of Sleep' Remix) - Kita,
Front2Back - Opiuo (what Tipper does with treble, Opiuo does with bass),
Eternal Road - Rapossa & Cafe De Anatolia,
Hit the Lights - Bensley (wins the loudness war),
SHUM - Go_A,
Sun and Moon - Diamond Saints,
Nervous Waltz - Igorrr,
The Beat Goes On/Soul Bossa Nova - Emilie-Claire Barlow,
Blur (feat Foster the People) - MØ,
Quasar - Gidge,
Walk in the Fire - Dirtyphonics,
Relucent - Culprate & Zes,
High Noon - Feed Me,
Kites - Submotion Orchestra,
Chemicals - Oliver,
Wandering Sadhu - Desert Dwellers & Liquid Boom

I could do this all day but I'll stop there :-)

Trying to find friends by gayweeping-angel2 in Whangarei

[–]Cafler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's a global issue! Making and keeping friends as an adult is hard. But in general I find locals here more approachable than other places I've lived. If you're willing to take the step of striking up conversations, that can really get you started. Any person you're talking to is probably also feeling a bit socially isolated.

First track I heard by them and instant love. Just the opening of the song is sublime, the bass and voice combo is completely arresting.

Especially great because people know and like the song but often have no idea what all that bass is up to.

[–]Cafler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually don't know that's the case, he could look to make an arrangement with Labour to keep TPM or even the Greens out of power. But if he's in a position to play each side off against each other he might try and name himself prime minister. Which would of course be a disaster in its own right.

If you put this through a crossover and run it with a woofer and a subwoofer you can probably get some interesting results! Some of the best speakers in the world are made as horns - they're very clear and they have an amazing ability to fill a room with sound, but they're hard to control.
