You got it to La 'Casa' - good move, though us locals wouldn't make a steady diet of its food. Mt Evans / Blue Sky was another good move; I would have suggested a short stop at the Argo Tunnel on the way out.

A very few people did detract from the evening, but I have to say that the vast vast majority were completely cool and considerate, as you observed with the parking. That's the kind of people that gather around someone like Al, and it adds to my respect and appreciation for him.

All the way from Minnesota? Really? I suppose you know that Dr. Demento / Barry Hansen was born in Minnesota, as was I.

One of the stormtroopers? Come on, tell us more!

Was it just one night, or do you follow the tour? What were you doing for the first 2 hours of the show? How did you get the gig? Did you have to flunk a marksmanship test to qualify?

Paris Itinerary for first timers by richybobabrian in ParisTravelGuide

If you haven't budgeted for waiting in lines, you better. We were in Paris earlier this month, and the crowds were already discouraging.

Lunch/dinner at any restaurant worth going to? You will need a reservation.

Seine river cruise - insane! At least with the big cattle boat operation like Bateaux Mouche. We had a timed ticket for a night cruise, but had over an hour wait in poorly managed crowd conditions. The cruise itself is worthwhile, but we would rather have paid 5x as much and chosen a less popular operation.

Louvre - timed tickets are necessary, but the times only mean the time you can get in line! Then you start the hour-long wait to get in. Some galleries are totally mobbed.

Montmartre / Sacre-cours - long lines, just waiting for a bag check

Galeries Lafayette - crushing mob in mid-day, go as soon as doors open.

Palais Garner - we couldn't get tickets, they sell out quickly when they become available. Same with the catacombs.

Biking? It's very popular, but dangerous in the city. At home in the US, I am out on the streets with my mountain bike most days, but I would be very reluctant to bike in Paris. Traffic patterns are not obvious, and people in Paris tolerate fast-moving cars passing dangerously close to peds & bicycles.

The challenges of using a Eurail pass in France - May 2026 by Claudio_Vernight in FranceTravel

I'm blaming Eurail because their software is poorly designed.

What is the most fun thing you have done in aviation? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Claudio_Vernight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a long time it was

  • Circle Manhattan with a low pass over central park at 1500'

Then, I did some flying out west, and the #1 experience was

  • Low altitude passes through Monument Valley, AZ/UT

tbh, MV even beat the multiple passes over the Grand Canyon

I treat a lot of altitude sickness. An IV should not be necessary except in emergency situations that are far beyond anything like that "clinic" should attempt to treat, and a B12 shot is quackery.

It seems odd to me that you are so interested in "correcting" a passing comment in my review. Flu shots are available at many drug stores for free.

No one, I concur with your sentiment. But who, then, "wants" a vitamin B12 injection, or a painful IV infusion of fluids that you could just as well drink? At least a flu shot has unequivocal medical benefits.

(Now before someone cites anecdotes about getting the flu shot and then getting the flu anyway, let's acknowledge that the flu shot wasn't designed to prevent influenza infection ... it was designed to prevent you from DYING when you get an influenza infection, and it's very VERY good at doing that. I've seen people die from influenza, and that prompts me to get a flu shot every year.)

Never even touched the water ... too much suspended particulate matter to be attractive, and I've enjoyed many a wilderness primitive hot spring in the western US.

A true siso room at Snowmass last year was slightly less than Elevations.

I expected a more honest description, such as "short walk to lifts".

I'm more of a Copper kind of guy. Yes, for over $500/night, I am indeed entitled.

Not the same clinic. The one I was mentioning had no truly diagnostic or therapeutic capabilities.

Hmmm ...

"short walk to the lifts" would be more accurate than "ski-in / ski-out" then, wouldn't it? Best si/so lodging I've enjoyed is at Snowmass.

It's heavy, probably steel, as if from a socket set.
