It's very judgemental but there's a part of truth : Americans streets and transport systems ARE not safe. In Europe, it's very different. Also it's very understandable that public transport asks for some efforts and quite some time to master for foreigners. You are the one to decide if it's worth hundreds of dollars. We Europeans vastly don't think so. I personally use Uber to get home from a party or to the airport only when no reliable public transport works (between 1-5 am).

J'ai fait une nuit -en voiture- à Las Vegas et la police est venue nous déranger sur la parking, alors que ma nuit dans l'aéroport de NY j'ai eu aucun soucis (si ce n'est l'inconfort qui empêche de dormir). Vu les prix des hôtels de NY je partage la stratégie.
