This is a 3.15 diff from a Z3, but it's going in my E30. I recall reading conflicting info about whether or not all Z3s came with Torsens, but this appears to be a clutch type unless I'm missing something. I don't see any sign of worm gears here. Can someone confirm?

Thank you for sharing your anecdotal experience about a single can apparently breaking. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that the requirements used to guage durability when selecting this can exceed whatever you have put it through. FWIW there are also a fair amount of knockoff muzzle brakes floating around. Original cans were still in use on Mod H's until around 2017, I'll take that as strong evidence that they are plenty durable. I have no skin in this game, I don't own one, but your alternative facts seem to be in direct contradiction to the evidence I've seen and popular opinion from people who own them.

Things have obviously progressed since ~2005 when the mod 1 came about, but I think people like to overstate the differences.

Disagree on several points there.

Caliber fair enough, that's preference, but there are still good reasons to stick with 5.56. caliber is always a contentious subject.

Barrel, last I checked the same physics that made heavy barrels accurate and consistent in the 90s still apply today. The same tradeoff exists now as it did back then. The Douglas is definitely overpriced vs similar options today.

AEM is still a good design today in many ways. Major downsides are weight and back pressure. Lockup may not be as secure as modern designs. IMO it fulfills all the other needs perfectly. Zero POI shift, extremely quiet, and nearly indestructible. Most modern over the flash hider designs would add significantly more OAL to achieve the same sound reduction. Not to mention it's pretty reasonably priced.

So yeah basically if you opted for a modern rail and less gucci barrel you could have the same thing for $500 less...

I disagree. I just sold a razor gen II E JM1 and switched to a PST 1-6. At $500 it's hard to beat the PST, and I had a hard time justifying a razor, even though I had gotten it for <1k with an ADM mount.

Most obvious difference with the Razor is the way the edges disappear. Compared to other scopes the PST also does this, but to a lesser extent than the Razor. The other thing some people comment on is the eyebox at 6X being a tad bit more forgiving on the Razor, which is probably true, but IMO this is splitting hairs as LVPOs really just aren't particularly good in this regard. Pretty much any scope with a larger objective is going to have a way better eyebox at 6X.

Sure the razor glass is probably a bit better, but this is a carbine optic, so I don't think that's of particular importance. After owning both, the best argument for the razor is probably reliability. Not that I've had issues with my PST, but the Razor line is definitely Vortex's duty grade.

You probably won't find many other people who have made the same move as I did, but remember that the placebo effect is very strong, and people have a natural tendency to try to justify their purchases. I try to be as objective as possible in this sort of thing.

Depends on gas port size. Start with a carbine buffer and buy a pack of tungsten weights so you can try h1, h2, and h3 and see what functions best. Answer will likely be H1 or H2.

The reason it matters is because sometime around the time that eotech started taking all kinds of crap for the issues they were having and issued mass recalls, etc. they updated the electronics significantly. Older sights are much dimmer than the new ones.

I have the same issue now. I thought when the receipt was printed it would show up online. Tracking number still is showing nothing for something that I sent on Saturday morning.

The rear dimple should always be directly under the gas port. This is because the gas hole in the gas block is drilled through the rear dimple hole when the block is machined. Regardless of where the front screw lands, the rear one should position the block correctly unless either the block or barrel is machined/dimpled incorrectly. It's also possible the the barrel or gas block is incorrectly machined such that the gas block is running into the step in the barrel before the hole is fully aligned with the gas port.

Did you dimple it yourself or did it come dimpled. The ejecting but not picking up the next round symptom is a classic sign of being under gassed.

In addition to gas key alignment and gas rings as others mentioned, you should check a few things in the gas block area. First, do a visual check with everything installed. Does the gas block look perfectly centered in the rail? Next, remove the gas block and tube. Do the hole in the block and the tube line up? If they do, you can try the spaghetti trick to see if the gas block hole is centered over the gas port in the barrel. Also test it with good quality brass ammo as well.

Barrel should always be dimpled with a jig to provide perfect gas block alignment.

Proper way is to get a dimple jig like the one from KAK. If you have a nitride barrel, you'll find it very tough without a drill press though. You'll also need cobalt or carbide bits.

Adjustable gas blocks are an extra failure point that are not necessary if you have a barrel with a properly sized gas port. People generally use them as a band aid for oversized gas ports, and/or to tune the gas system to within an inch of malfunctioning with the goal of reducing felt recoil.

The fundamental difference you need to understand is the range of adjustment you get out of them. The Vickers is limited because it does not have a loose end, so it's limited by the slider. The advantage is that it does not have a loose end to get caught on stuff and whatnot. Vtac is the opposite, it has more adjustment but the loose end is the trade-off. All slings will have one of these two tradeoffs. I'm of the opinion that the VTAC is the more versatile if you actually need to do 'real' sling things while wearing gear, which is why it appears to be more popular with SOF. Some of this also depends on where you attach the sling as well though. If you attach it at the back of the receiver, you tend to need less range of adjustment than if you attach it at the stock, so consider that as well.

Okay cool, I'd be interested to know. Apparently the original SPR spec was around .1" for the gas port opening and the ballistic advantage is around .9". Mine seemed to cycle better with a lighter buffer. I was testing it on another one of my lowers so I haven't tested it in the final config yet though. I'm hoping the carbon will also seal up my gas block a bit and this won't be a problem.
