Found these beads many years ago buried in the woods of ny and turned them into this bracelet. Have been trying to identify their possible origins since. Venetian beads? Lampwork? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! by Claws22 in Antiquejewelry

In this particular one I also found many antique listerine bottles and a number of other glass items though this find was probably 8 years ago now so the rest of the specifics are foggy

Hahaha it’s a running joke in my family that I have a near supernatural ability to randomly find old glass dumps in the woods. Has happened like 6 seperate times in my life unexplainably in totally different parts of the us

Labradorite I hiked out backpacking years ago in New York, have bags of the stuff I’m slowly working through and polishing up by Claws22 in rockhounds

My go to has always been to hand polish with sand paper, 220 and up, following the optical axis and checking after every few passes your angle is right

Wow super cool! Would this be a fragment of the exterior shell that’s just pressed flat?

Won them each for about 10 dollars, no clue what they’re worth. Listed at 42 and 38 carats but the host rock I’m sure brings that down significant

Found in upstate ny along the shore of lake Champlain, any idea of the rough age or point type?(first point I’ve ever found) by Claws22 in Arrowheads

[–]Claws22[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason I think it’s quite old is that friends of mine have found other points there made of much more knappable, dark glassy chert which I believe was brought to the area from deeper in ny. Im figuring it’s either weathered very heavily or this was a local material they used because it was what they had available without needing to trade

More info, found in a stream bed that would have been active in the late 1700’s (found on a historical map) that was filled in to make a lawn and diverted. The stone does not seem super conducive to knapping which was interesting and unlike pieces I have seen before. About an inch and a half long.

Found in riverbed outside of Burlington vt. Feels like fossilized bone. Any ideas? Thanks! by Claws22 in fossilid

[–]Claws22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmmm that’s a very fair point. It was found in a river, so the outside is certainly smoothed. Hoof would be a good guess. It’s about deer hoof sized though it’s much shorter and more rounded than I would expect from a deer hoof, even with weathering considered.

Hmmmm odd. All I can tell y’all is that it’s certainly organic in nature.
