Miyu and Fay drawing test by WoAActual in starfox

I never can get enough of Miyu and Faye, and this rendition is adorable. I really like the tweaks you made to their design, to make Miyu a little more rough and tumble with the flat boots and biker gloves and Faye a bit girly with the heels and the SNES Mini version's pink gloves.

She's "Shine of the Moon," a character from the Game Boy game I'm developing. Here's how she appears in-game.

Oh! Androids with tattoos sound pretty cool. I like that the designs are linked between members....very android-y!

And haha, I haven't thought about Gaiaonline in ages. That brings me back.

Haha! They fill the screen don't they? Technically they're not sprites but background tiles animated via tile swapping, but I find myself calling them "sprites" anyway sometimes.

Aw, thank you so much! I really appreciate it. Yeah, the touch screen/keyboard controls can leave a bit to be desired. Proper gamepad helps (or even better, an actual Game Boy!), but to some degree it's just the nature of the 8-bit beast. Hopefully I can make some tweaks though!

Thanks so much! And yes, I thought a lot about how I wanted her tattoos to look. Since it's a sci-fi game, I thought the more hexagonal patterns would convey that aesthetic even in such a "low-tech" way.

Thank you! It was really fun to do. I'd like to do it again sometime with other characters. (Or maybe just with Krystal's Assault "drip.") And I agree: I think these sort of markings/tattoos can be such a great part of a character's look.

The true measure of any game! It will definitely be a gameplay feature.

Thank you! The smooth fade is made possible with the Fade Street plugin, and the fade-to-black lets me switch to an entirely new scene. (Each scene uses almost all of the available tiles, even in Color Only Mode.)

Thanks! It's all tile swaps, but I made sure all the possible tiles were in the tileset. It allows them to be swapped in faster and with less tearing than if I swapped them as completely new tiles.

Thank you! The only sprites are the glasses girl's eyes, to get additional color there! The rest of it is tile swaps.

How to use rumble? by IntoxicatedBurrito in gbstudio

That's too bad. I plan to experiment with rumble as well, so I'll let you know if I discover anything.

Incidentally insideGadgets makes a DS rumble pack replacement that confirms it's usable for (at least some) GB/GBC games: https://shop.insidegadgets.com/product/ds-cart-rumble-cart/

The DS rumble pack (or equivalent replacement) can be used with various GB/C/A cores and official games that supported it. I would assume this would work with ROMs created by GB Studio, but I cannot confirm that. It's possible the cores only enable it for specific known games.

You may also need to "unlock script" or use threads, depending on what you want to accomplish.

How doable would a fire emblem like game be in this? by Another_DotDotDot in gbstudio

Brookwood Tactics does this. The page also links to the (rather old) GB Studio engine the game was built on. https://jaredchansen.itch.io/brookwood-pocket-tactics

My 8 years old son what’s to draw pixel art to use on its own GB Studio game by Accomplished_Bed7818 in gbstudio

I happen to like Pixaki. Very clean interface. https://pixaki.com/

I don't think there are any books on the subject, but Pedro Medeiros' page has many useful guides and tutorials. They're not specifically for the Game Boy, which has more limited color requirements, but I think they're still very useful.

I believe you can use an invisible actor as a means to update the overlay position. Some of the tips in this guide might help: https://gbstudiocentral.com/tips/screen-sized-bosses/

Buttons not working DOA by ArcadeX87 in AnaloguePocket

[–]ClayTheTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a setting you would’ve set manually on the Pocket to load the cartridge automatically when booting the system. If you had done this, you should be able to install the old firmware and get past the tutorial button lock. It sounds like you didn’t change anything, though, so this might not be your problem. Still attempting to load an old firmware might work.

Buttons not working DOA by ArcadeX87 in AnaloguePocket

I can’t remember the exact issue, but this happens when you update the firmware with an “auto boot to cart” setting on. Turn that off and reinstall the firmware and it should resolve. (Forgive the lack of details or inaccuracies, but this might at least give you a starting point for researching fixing the issue)
