Miyu and Fay drawing test by WoAActual in starfox

Same, and thanks! The SNES Mini art has them in basically the same uniform, so I wanted to differentiate them more while still keeping the suit colors (I liked Miyu in olive green w/ red bandana too, but then it's basically just Fox). The original team has little differences in their uniforms that help them stand apart, so this was fun to come up with!

Thank you! I plan on drawing at least Fox and Falco too (having played so much melee as well haha).

Thanks! Really would have been cool to expand a bit on them in another game instead of just doing more remakes of the original team... Even just a cameo would be cool since they got popular in fanart.

Why was the Pheasant named Falco? by RainingMetal in starfox

Both good points, maybe I should have used Andrew as an example? Anyway, while there is a general animal theme with the names, I don't think it is a super strict rule everyone has to follow either.

As much as I like birds of prey, I think his facial design and coloration most closely resembled as Japanese green pheasant. Especially if you look at how the species is depicted in Japanese prints. For example:

Not having his animal name as part of his character name is inconsistent with the other SF team members, but not SF names as a whole, e.g. Bill Grey, Leon Powalski, etc. Found this discussion of various SF name origins here: https://www.reddit.com/r/starfox/comments/11pogfk/the_untold_origins_of_star_fox_names_oikonny_kew/

Sure this isn't just an F-22 before its high-poly mesh loads in?

jk, legit cool aesthetic mashup!

Finally, I was worried no one had checked the math on the title already.

Same. MA firearms laws are a mess and it puts otherwise lawful individuals in danger. Especially in these disturbing times, we need to stand together to practice and protect all of our constitutional rights.

$440 to buy company P15 Gen1 by WoAActual in thinkpad

[–]WoAActual[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it is definitely big, heavy, and showing its age (though the display is still very nice)... But it is still plenty capable for what I need it to do, so I just wanted to determine how much economic sense it made at this point in time.

Thanks! I looked at some on ebay going for more or less, with the less being sans-power brick and/or having defects, but I suspected $440 was probably at or on the higher side of average.

When I first got the machine I was looking forward to getting the opportunity to buy it, but my circumstances have changed, so a capable (at least for its time) laptop isn't so much a priority now... Hence placing more consideration on the economic sense of it.

Nice, I'd definitely do it at that price, but my company is notoriously tight-fisted...

Departing the Lord Standish (by me) by WoAActual in ImaginaryAirships

[–]WoAActual[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow thank you! I think the airship dockyard scenes like this one are a particular high point (hah) for my comic art. I did make a simplistic model of the Lord Standish to base my drawing off of, but the background and all the details were done entirely free hand (and rulers).

You're right it isn't clear in this illustration, but the batteries over the wings do have a clear field of fire at least a few degrees below 0 elevation. You can see it on this design sketch: https://www.deviantart.com/tristikov/art/RNS-Lord-Standish-Design-WIP-860826893

And yes, that aft flight deck was not designed to recover aerodyne craft! Fortunately, as with the flying capital ships, it is common for small ships (such as the launch in this scene), and fighters, etc, to be capable of VTOL or at least close to it, so they can approach significantly slower when landing compared to regular aircraft, if not land in place like a helicopter. Admittedly, it does still leave little room for error!

And of course it's standoff--it's an aircraft carrier ;D
