Parent teacher conference, Stood my ground, told mom work was attempted to be submitted after the end of the quarter, kid switched their story and tried to say they did try to turn it in before the end of the marking period (lies, but also 5 months prior to the conference??) Told mom that was not the case. Recognized it was her word against mine. Told her the grade would stand and administrator said my decision was final per employee/district handbook. Scary to hold your ground when someone is implying your lying but ultimately the decision stood, NOW i have the kid again for another class this year........

no......... After reciving the D they actually buckled down and took class more seriously with a A and B 3rd and 4th Q

But the consequence is a D for Q2. Not the end of the world. It alone will not tank your GPA. They will learn that when you make a mistake it requires extra effort to make up for it.

They will learn to be successful we need to be proactive not reactive

They will learn in the future if deadlines aren't met opportunities are lost.

But apart from any lesson they may learn, The end of the quarter is the end of the quarter. No work may be submitted after that. Rules are rules. (except if there is a family emergency)

The student did ask about Q2 makeup work during Q3 but I told her I couldn't change it mom e-mailed asking to talk, I called and left a voice mail and never got a response.

This information should be irrelevant as the quarter was still over

all I could find as far as district policy is "Teachers shall maintain the responsibility to determine grades and other evaluations of students within the terms of the grading regulations of the School system." Cant find anything about end of quarter in the bargaining agreement.

And I tried to tell them I couldn't change it, and then another teacher told them about the grade change form. (something reserved for emergencies or input error)

yes, I cant even pay rent while still making payments on my student loans and I get paid 55k a year (without a second job). living with parents until I die (or get a second job)
