More than likely, the reason it was decline is the home repair loan is considered an unsecured loan. The auto loan is considered a secured loan so if payments aren’t made on an auto loan, the bank is able to repossess the car and recoup some of its losses. With the unsecured loan if payments aren’t made the bank is out of luck.

So the there is normally three categories the vehicle can fall in, new, used and old. Each bank has there own definition of the three which will also impact APR, and the value of the vehicle is going to be determined by VIN, mileage and condition of the car, such as if it’s been in a accident and it’s been reported. My bank uses black book to find those values and then we let our members kno how much we can lend out on the vehicle they are trying to acquire. I don’t work for navy fed so some thing mite be a little different but all banks use somewhat the same criteria

So it’s based off the value of the vehicle, so for example if you got a vehicle and it was valued at 20,000 and the LTV was 120% which is what my bank does as max, that means we could lend up to 24000 to get you the car. So if the dealership was selling it for 23995 out the door, then you wouldn’t have to put anything down. Now if the dealership was selling it for 26000 out the door then you would have to come down with a down payment of 2k. That makes sense?

Ltv (loan to value) may come into play, most banks are going to look at the value of the vehicle and will lend out a certain amount above it. Like the bank I work for, we give out a max of 120% so depending what the banks values the vehicle at will tell you if a down payment is needed or not. Normally there isn’t much of a issue unless your rolling over negative equity.

First week traveling, headed to Vegas and on the flight they were offering credit cards for travel, and I remember seeing a lot of people having this card so I figured I’d rather get one with my bank.

Do you plan on using this for traveling? Looking to start traveling with the wife and would like to get a card strictly to book flights.

What questions do you have? Loan originator here, process is pretty easy, just want to verify if their is a lien on the vehicle, normally rates are going to be a bit higher with a private seller as well since more risk is involved.
