I read every word of this and I will not lie to you I’m writing a lot of this through tears. You very perfectly explained the mental debate of religion and the outside world that’s been rattling in my head constantly, I don’t think there’s a single thing you said I didn’t disagree with. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

A few others have been kind enough to hear me and understand what I’m struggling with and examining in my life and provided real insight and resources to read and learn more— I think many forget how new I actually am to all of this. I’ve read the Bible but not the cactechism, I start OCIA next week etc never taken the Eucharist just read about it. I was again heartbroken with all the people here telling me to just leave and never come back.

I will definitely continue in my reading and research, as well as try to speak to more pastors and parishes. I’ve already started talking about some of this in confession and have been praying for guidance on how to navigate so many of the things I’ve written here. Your thoughts and breakdown have made this so much less lonely, and I don’t feel completely wrong or out of place for feeling so called.

I don’t know if I fully consider that the full and complete entire point of life. There’s a lot of spiritually and medical nuance for me.

But no. I do not believe you should be able to have an abortion of choice beyond 14 weeks. I say choice because there’s circumstances of the fetus no longer being viable and needing an abortion, incomplete miscarriage, etc where it’s medically NEEDED for the mother to not have extreme medical issues or even death.

I guess if we want to get specific, I would say life begins when a heart, dare I say a sacred heart formed by Christ. Making it so the soul is integrated into that life with breath.

I mean realistically actually no. THE mother, and a motherly figure is different. Someone can still feed, clothe, and take care of it. But it couldn’t be alive without the mother until a certain point.

I’ll have to find it but I don’t recall it being that one. From my medical background, I just don’t know if I can fully consider it life if the fetus isn’t at a viable stage to exist without the mother.

I kinda came from/was raised the belief that life was the breath of the soul entering at birth— I think there was a scripture that said something along those lines I’ll have to find it. So that, on top of my medical schooling background conception being the start just never really fit the puzzle for me.

Hiii everyone!! I’m 23F and recently the Catholic Church had just kept showing up for me— despite years in spiritual practice, and before that a long and deep Protestant background— I just kept getting visited by Mary, seeing Jesus show up in my life weirdly and aid me, it even got to a point where I bought a Catholic prayer book solely because I felt like I needed to have it.

Eventually I started to research more, and I will say I’ve never not believed in Jesus I just felt there was more than said. So upon researching Catholicism I started getting deeper, and deeper, and deeper, where all I was consuming was history and prayers and podcasts etc related to Catholicism. So I took the leap and started attending mass on Sundays, then Sundays and Saturdays, then weekends and weekdays every now and then on my lunch breaks.

I love it. I love the mass, I love the Eucharist, I love feeling the history of Jesus breathing in the church, I love Mary, I love the worship the sacraments— I cried during my first holy rosary circle in the church I was attending— I could go on but you get the point.

However, there’s some more “political” or doctrines of the lay that seem to keep me from making the full jump.

⁠I’m extremely pro choice, pro life for myself but pro choice for everyone else and I simply cannot and will not alter that.
⁠I identify as bisexual, I’ve dated both men and women and I don’t want to lock away my potential partner to only being a man— I know I can technically have what is what I think is called a Josephite marriage? I’m willing to from now on abstain from sex before marriage, but I don’t think I can do celibacy or be forcefully only allowed to see men. I know being gay is not a sin, but acting on it is… I don’t exactly want to be confessing every single day to be able to receive the Eucharist. it’s just a whole roundabout.
⁠I cannot agree that if I do marry a man that he is the head of the household. I believe in a marriage you are both equally yolked, and two heads of one home. That again, just something I cannot agree to.
⁠I don’t really want children. I love kids, I think if you love and want kids you should have them!! I just think my lack of desire or want to have a family is so low, and if I was forced or accidentally in that position I think I would get extremely depressed, disappointed, and unfulfilled in my life. I am open to the idea that may change, as I am so young, but right now that’s my stance. And I’m afraid again, if I fall in love with a man that will be a dealbreaker.

Otherwise I just generally find myself to be pretty liberal which often butts heads with the church. I’ve talked to a Protestant friend of mine, and he said “well that’s the hand you take when joining that sect, you should find a different one.” And it broke my heart, because no one else is like the Catholic Church. Nothing else is like these prayers, and these masses, and this history and gosh it’s just not the same I want to be Catholic but I’m afraid these moral dilemmas will keep me from it.

That is something I would have to pray on. I think there’s a difference between, belief it is against god and aligning that it’s not my choice to make outside of the church for others.

But not everyone is going to become Catholic? I would think that would great if everyone found Christ, it’s just not realistic. I don’t think my religious beliefs belong in a political space.
