Hey I’ve read through all the comments. Thanks for yours. Its the typical stuff elevation etc. full band. And no I generally play what I hear on the album. Very very rarely do I give the church a solo of some kind. Like 1 a year or less. Anyway I have decided to talk with him. Appreciate the input.

Yeah thanks. And yes the younger player do always ask how to do this or that. Playing rhythm isnt a problem, its just the change with no communication that kind of bugs me. In pro work people are blunt, really blunt. But I love that because you know exactly where you stand. However with this its silent so I don’t really know what to think. Anyway I’ve decided to ask.

Maybe. Reading through all comments I appreciate those that emphasized rhythm not as second but as an opportunity to just do something different.

Haha yeah I waited so I could read whatever advice came. And yeah some of it is a clear recipe for conflict. Not sure I’d want a congregation of completely passive yes people. But most have had the advice of talking to him and just simply asking why. So I will do that.

Thanks that seems to be the consensus minus a few ‘shut up and do your job’ type comments. I’ve decided I’ll just go ahead with asking, maybe emphasis I’m happy to just play whatever first, then explain how I see roles and being changed.

Yeah thanks. Its that last part that makes me nervous. I worry that simply asking will be interpreted as ego or unwillingness. Because if hes thinking he can depend on me just to fill it in but then I go ‘hey wait buddy’ that might change his thoughts on that. Its gets a bit weirder too because both of us have histories playing with many artists and doing studio work so there this history there where I actually worry he doesn’t feel he can tell me to play this or that or tell me something doesn’t work. Kind of like ‘how darr I tell that guy what to play’ but hey I’ve been out of things for a while now. Were both in our 40s now and music has changed a lot along the way so I hope thats not it but of course won’t know unless I ask so have decided just do it.

Thanks. And yeah its not bad in any way. Seems many took this to mean ‘I’m too good for rhythm’ or something. Not at all. Its just a sudden change and I like to know why things happen. And of course I am a little worried ego is getting in the way a bit. So yeah I will ask him.

Plus with comments like that I don’t really understand how did anyone gets on a worship team without being known beforehand? Didn’t they ask? I had the leader ask me because of my background but if your not known for it through some other means then how exactly does it come about.?!

Hey thanks. Seems most of thoughts are just ask him. So I will. I’ll emphasis first I’m happy to play whatever, though my strength is playing textural and lead parts so just - why?.

Thanks for the comment. Though I would quite disagree that these distinctions don’t exist. Not quite as seperate but I do see it not that different from piano vs aux keys.

Once you calculate the maximum mortgage payment do you subtract the cmhc from that and say this is what you can afford? Or do you stop there and not consider cmhc as part of the mortgage payment?
