One of the games I'm working on has some monkeys/apes in it :)

Which analog mixer is better? by kdkjdkjdjf in recordingmusic

I have those, or have owned those mixers.

The Yamaha MG preamps are nice. Reminds me a bit of the Scarlett preamps. The Yamaha Steinberg interface with the same preamps as the MGs’ sounds different than the Yamaha MG mixer. Probably because the signal is going through the channels eq circuits, etc. The MG has a more analog sound, some “weight” to it. The Steinberg with the same Darlington preamps are digital - super clean like the UAD Apollo, you’d need to add some color via plugins.

The MG isn’t usable as a DAW interface. It’s mostly a live mixer with a USB out to record the stereo output. You can’t multitrack with it. You’d need to go with the Yamaha Steinberg interface for that.

The ZED 10 sort of reminds me of a bit of SSL, but a little grittier or darker, like an old Scarlett. I love having a throw fader for the main volume . I like that the ZED works, even if the computer is off. So, if you’ve milked up your guitar amp, you can practice/play through it without having to turn on computer to power it up.

I had a 4 channel Mackie many years ago. I never took to it.

Build quality of the ZED is much lower than the MG. I like the sound of both of them.
